I have to ask you: Actually how far north were you? Did you have to weak mukluks all day or move around with sled dogs? Was it like Ice Road Truckers?
Beyond us was Quebec wilderness and no human habitation. I did wear mukluks, but not in bed We cross country skied to church, had a block heater in the car and plugged it in when shopping at the super market. Skated or toboggan, then went to the dairy for ice cream afterwards. But we were younger then, and didn't notice the cold.

Birds, generally, have SEVEN layers of feathers from down to primaries. Likely, the best of Mother Nature's survival strategies.
