Another vote for the Olympus TG series. Mine is a the TG-4, as that was the current model when I made my purchase. I am extremely satisfied with it.

One note on telephoto reach. Olympus makes a tele converter lens which increases the total focal length (in 35mm terms) to 170mm. The downside to that is that the camera lens must be set to its max telephoto setting, not any less or the image will vignette. So it goes (again 35mm equivalent) 100mm (camera only) directly to 170mm (with tele converter attached), nothing in between.

I have two other 'tough' cameras besides the TG-4. I don't dive but I am very active in the mountain area where we live, so no shortage of environments adverse to conventional cameras. So these 'tough' cameras get a lot of use. I do not want to worry about my gear when I am in the field. I want my cameras to be able to survive any environment I can survive.

CHEAP SECOND HAND Fuji XA1, produces the clearest photos of all my cameras and fits in your pocket.

Hi! We are going to the Galápagos Islands in May and I would rather not carry my Canon 5D MarkIII and lenses. Especially because we’ll be snorkeling and on a boat. I’m looking for a good compact camera possibly waterproof but not a deal breaker. I would love to hear about small cameras you have used for your adventures.
And any Galopogos photo advice would be awesome!

Not waterproof, but would certainly be handier than a large DSLR... you could pick up the small Rebel SL1 from KEH for around $150 and add an 18-200 zoom or whatever you wish that you can get for a few more dollars, or that you already have, then add a raincoat like this:

Put it all in one of these and sell it when you get home if you don't like it:

I always travel with an Olympus TG5, (for water parks, snorkeling, beach, snow, etc..) AND my RX100 vii for everything else. I call them my "dream team" for travel. They are both VERY expensive...... BUT I have never regretted it.
