Steve Perry has a new video about how to make ISO 12,800 look like ISO 400. That email made me smile. Remember when we tried to avoid using 400 ASA film because it was too grainy? I preferred 32 or 125. Now, 400 is considered good. Our grandchildren will think that ISO 1,000 is slow.

It's the best 45 minutes you'll spend on post processing! (Steve)

If I had posted a link, the thread would have been moved to Never Never Land - "Links."

FYI LongShadow posted a link this morning and it was in this section. For some reason if you just post the link itself without commentary it seems to work.

Don't post the link in the first post of the thread. Add it in the second post, with or without text.

Why not just post everything with links in the (wait for it) links section.

If everybody did that it wouldn't be an issue, and the links section could become useful.

Well, I did that earlier...I don't think a lot of people have that on their watch lists.

Jerry you really brought back some memories on that. My go to film was Plus-X ASA 40 for B/W and then Kodachrome ASA 25 for color. If I was shooting a sporting event I would use Tri-X ASA 400 and using a method called Stand Processing you could push it to about 6400 ASA.

The Links section get almost no traffic. I made the mistake of posting a link in Main, and it was moved to Links. There were no replies to the post after that.

Even more useful would be allowing links in the Main section when a link would be appropriate. Maybe we need a new section: "Main with No Links, but Links are Required." 😂

I have quite a few good ones that are 12,800. With many of the denoise tools, one can create an outstanding photo. If as you said in a diffrrent post, you prefer SOOC then you paint yourself into distant dark corner. By the way 1,000 is nothing today much less our grandkids. Youmay be a generation behind. Average pics are 2,000-4,000 with minimal editing. This is one of reasons that most of pros especially actioj shots like to use manual and auto ISO - they can concetrate on composition while shooting rather than fondling the ISO setting, short of an EV setting.

Yes, cameras have come a long way since the 1960s. I don't hesitate to crank up the ISO.
