Good chance you're right.

OR, there are that many people now and they are each taking their turn an dining out once a week or month.

When they're supporting a house, and maybe a family, that will change.

Jerry, my growing annoyance is over the price of drinks. One restaurant we used to favor has iced tea at $3.99. For two adults and a teen (normal for us) that's close to 12 bucks for drinks alone. We've taken to getting water lately...

My wife and I recently had breakfast at a local restaurant that has started charging $1.00 for a glass of water.

Yes, I've seen that in island countries where water isn't as readily available. During water shortages, restaurants in this country have charged for water.

Ten years ago? Lunch in a restaurant usually averaged $15 for the two of us. We joked about that then, always about $15 no matter where we went.
Now I think we're pushing $30.

Lunch for two… $30.00? I’d love to have a place like that near me. With tax, tip we’re pushing $50.00

For me, eating out is having a P B & J on the back patio. With a glass of milk, $1, tops.

I don't eat out as often as I used to, but last night my son and I went to a new local eatery. We each got a cheeseburger with onion rings. I wanted fries, but I wound up with onion rings. The $8.00 hamburger for each of us produced a bill totaling $28.62. This is one reason why I don't eat out very often. Apparently, the $8.00 covered only the hamburger. The list of things below it all included an extra charge, unbeknownst to me. I don't know if paying by CC added to the bill because I didn't get a receipt. I'll continue to eat at home.

When we eat out we frequently get the special or the entree, price difference between a sandwich or a burgher doesn't work, an extra dollar and you get more food and sometimes coffee and desert, we take home a doggie bag .

I agree with everyone, eating out these days really sucks! For my wife and I at a local Greek restaurant here is what we paid: 1 small Greek Salad, $16. 1 Meatballs, (there were 6 1" meatballs in a sauce) $18. 1 Baklava, $12. 1 gelato, $12. 1 double espresso, $6. the total plus tax came to $69.44 + tip...About $12. So, now we get $81.44. You are right, in todays inflated economy, very few can afford to eat out! I know I cannot.

One of the best lunch combos! The only combo lunch that is better is grilled cheese with tomato soup.

Twenty years ago in NH, we would go to a local diner for breakfast. I liked their "222 Special." I got two eggs, two bacon, two sausage, and two pancakes for $2.22.

Yeah, no more eating out for me. A few months ago, my son and I had lasagna at a restaurant - $70. I buy Stauffer's frozen lasagna for $15, and we get three nights out of it. That works out to about $2.50 per meal vs $35 for someone to bring it to us.

"All pigs are equal, but some pigs are more equal than others." Also true for Lasagna.
