I am not sure what the theme is in this one. Also, there is an excess of foreground. Indeed some assignments are difficult. Viewing the August image, I found it interesting and well done.
Thanks very much for your time, Don. Here is a crop of this week's and a repost of August's below.
Regarding the assignment, it's a tough one that I liken to minimalism and to effective use of negative space: I know it when I see it, and anything else labeled as such is very subjective
How I felt this image qualifed as visual weight creating a balanced composition: the two basketball thingies are equal size and density, facing each other, and each have a pop of red that draws the eye. The texture and curves of the foreground balance the whiteness of the sky. A crop IMO unbalances the top/bottom.
What interests you more in the previous shot? The angle of the hoops, that shades of gray make viewing easier on the eyes and more about textures and lines, or other? Please let me know; I'm very interested in comparing!
I like your newest post for tone and color, but like the leaning basketball stands from August better. They have a derelict, forlorn look that appeals to me and suits the surroundings.

Oh, I see that now. Indeed they do. And the gray skies add to that also. Thanks much, Ellen!
I love that you got low for this. Quail’s eye view of the basketball court?
There’s something odd about the perspective in this. The backboards are the same size even though the angle and height difference suggest that the hoop facing us is farther away. Is there distant hoop larger than the close one?

Delighted the image caught your interest, Jared!
The scene is on a rise above the parallel road, where I was sitting in my car to take the shot
I can't tell anything other than what you see here because the hill is so steep and the road so close to it.

Composed for a flickr theme, "Balance and Visual Weight."
Primary fanciful edit is Studio 2's "sketch outline" at lower opacity. I also selectively increased red saturation.
Feedback welcomed!
I looked at the August version and still have a bit of a problem with the basket in the background. It seems larger and if it is in the background, it should be smaller. I read the other comments and nobody seems to be confused. I think I'm just not getting it. Sorry.

Erich, I saw it this way: the two are near to being on the same flat plain because one is lateral distance while the other is vertical distance and angled. That may not be, but that's how it looks to me.

That does make sense. I like the photo, it just confused me a bit. I also like the earlier photo from August. I'm sure Linda will have a perfectly logical explanation.

LOL, that's putting a big responsibility on me, Erich
The property is above the roadway, the roadway is parallel to the property, and I shot from the car. The bank is steep and just high enough that what you see is all that I can see also.
If folks are getting hung up on perspective and relative sizes, it says that what I was trying to convey - and what interested me in the shot - was not successful.
Your time is much appreciated!
Linda, I like the results of the crop ... the diagonal of the nets and the diagonal of the vegetation are close to parallel ... well done. Having assignments to do keeps us dancing.

Many thanks for your time and interest, Don.
I love how you composed this, it caused me to to stop and take a closer look at this. Well done.
