We came upon this weasel like creature, a Marten, in the Warm Creek area of Soda Butte Creek. He stopped, gave me the once over and took off. He circled back within a couple minutes and began showing interest in our vacant and open-doored vehicle, about a hundred feet away, with partly eaten lunch on the seat. Kathy ran, slammed the door shut and bugged out. Will post a few shots later.

Thanks to all who stop in for a peek at this tough little character!

Beautiful little, vicious critters, Dave! Lucky you! They aren't seen very often!

Some of the rangers I talked to had never seen one! We stop in this area every couple years and usually catch a moose or two. Parts of this area were re-arranged with the 2022 flood.

Btw, D500 with 200-500 at 300mm. The Pf would have been useless.

What's a "Pf"?

It's a Nikon 500mm lens that the Chief and I tested on Black Point Drive on Merritt Island, Fl.

Yeah, I'm too old to buy a real camera!

"The PF lens element is based upon the Phase Fresnel lens, which appears to have a series of concentric circles engraved onto it. Utilizing a Phase Fresnel lens element allows Nikon engineers to use fewer lens elements..."

Short and light, different lenses available.

Lol! There are plenty if uses for it, but hiking wooded areas is not one! I keep a 24-120 or 70-200 on the 850 and between the two I'm covered.

I agree. If I was rich like you, I would have one!

If it cost a buck to go around the world, I'd probably get stuck in DC!

Great shots. You are one lucky photographer, all the time I spent in the back country and I have never seen one.
