I wonder what the life expectancy is for men whose wife finds out that they bought new camera gear compared to men with no interest in photography. 😁

It would depend if she is interested in photography & likes the gear that was replaced & given to her.

I consider myself lucky to be looking forward to my 80th birthday in a few months. So many people never make to half that age. Take a look at the world average and averages by country.

Unfortunately, I suspect that some people will not be able to control themselves, and this will be sent to The Attic.

That is expectancy at birth. For you
According to the most recent data from the Social Security Administration, the life expectancy for an 80 year old American male is an additional 7.74 years, for a total life expectancy of 87.74 years.

About the same as it is for women whose husbands find out thar they just spent $2000.00 on a P.O.S. Luis Vuitton handbag

That is because you place a lot of orders from Amazon. They have to keep you alive. Also there will be fewer posts in the chit chat without you we have to keep you going too.

You know, I suspected that.

So according to that chart my Grandmother who was born in 1890 (average life expancy around 40 years) beat the odds by nearly 250%... she made it to 99

Well, the average and the actual are different. If an infant dies shortly after birth, that dramatically lowers the average. Hundreds of years ago, the average life expectancy was much lower because so many children died so young. Still, people lived into the 70s.

Now that would be an interesting statistical analysis. Maybe Longshadow can take that on after he gets done with his "RAW-JPEG" survey. 🙄

You never know! My mother died at 71, my dad at 73, my brother at 64, my son at 55, my husband at 79. I am 86. I had cancer at 53 but other than that have never needed a Dr more than 6 times in my life. Two of those were to have children and 2 for severe allergies. I have been blessed.

May you keep going strong, Jo.

As one of my doctors told me , " you can't outrun your genes ". Looks like you have good genes.

Best to you!! My family had 4 members who lived to be close to or over 100 (Paternal Grandmother - 102; 3 Maternal Aunts - 98, 100, and 101 respectively). I think it would be fair to say that there are some good genes in our family. I'm hanging in there!!

Very true. Look at old headstones and the majority died very young or quite old. If you lived through the multitude of childhood diseases that killed so many, then you were tough. Plenty of my Puritan and Quaker ancestors in the 17th and 18th centuries lived into their 70-80s.

Not so with kids. At that time it was common for only 25-50% of the kids make it to adulthood. The lower figure for Europe and higher for America. People in the colonies were healthier and lived longer than those still in Europe.
