sippy, I hate to bust your bubble but your hottie model is probably either a very sweaty Nigerian guy working out of a mud hut or someone in India who has a regular job as an over the phone tech assistant that helps you figure out your cell phone problems and in their off hours run scams.

So Sippy, you got a choice between a computer whiz who’s Indian or a sweaty Nigerian showing up on your doorstep.

For anyone who thinks that these scams only happen because of the internet or the telephone, think again. I first saw a similar scam in a movie about 20 years ago. In a city with apartment buildings, this guy just rang bells to random apartments. When it was answered by a woman on the speaker, the scammer pretended that he was her nephew. No need for a phone, or email, or the internet.

The same scam can be perpetrated using the telephone or email, of course. I once got an email from a friend's account telling me that he was robbed in London and needed some cash fast. I, of course, contacted my friend, who lived in Hong Kong. His email account was hacked.

So if you think this can be easily solved if we just throw money at the problem, think again.

I now get scammers constantly trying to get me. I mess with them and thats a whole different story.
Today I received a notice that one of my pictures was in the running for a prize in a photography contest.
They included a real poor copy of the image . I attached it,
I would have never entered this in a contest , In fact I'm not even sure its one of my pix. If so I took it a LONG time ago.

Here is how the scam works. They say your photo is in the running for a prize.
A few days later they send you a message saying you are NOT eligible for any prizes because you
didn't pay the entrance fee for the picture.
You can guess the rest, If I send them the entrance fee my picture goes back in the contest.

Then of course I tell them I can send a check, they want anything but a check. They dont even want cash as they dont want you to know they are in India or Nigeria etc.
so now you have been warned.

I had a variation of it on Facebook. I was direct messaged that someone would like to use one of my photos on Facebook; they were willing to pay me for it and I would have to send them my banking information so that they could deposit the money. I told them that they could use the photo for free; they told me that they could not do that and please send my banking information. I stopped communications at that point.

Good for you. NEVER give any personal information to someone who cold calls you, internet, phone, whatever. It's always a scam.

These scammers are very creative. If it sounds off, it most likely is. Here’s another one that’s fairly subtle. You get a call that sounds legit, but after you say “Hello,” the caller responds with, “Can you hear me now?” DO? NOT SAY, “YES!” They will record your voice, then clone it and then use your “voice” to open accounts, drain your account(s) and cause you all sorts of financial problems. Just hang up.

Totally agree! DO NOT say anything. More importantantly, DO NOT ANSWER THE CALL.
A Kids family got scammed out of $85,000 saying they abducted his kid and sent them his voice crying. They paid it. It was a scam. The kid was fine and followed the direction of the scammers.

In today's day and age of AI and phone technology, if you do not know who is calling you, do not answer the phone. I do not answer my door if I do not know who is knocking and I practice the same with my phone.

User ID...

It is not a 'tenses' issue... See the below description of 'Bitcoin' and realize this is a 'play on words'

========== Per ChatGPT AI:
... "Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency, also known as a cryptocurrency. It was created in 2009 by an unknown person or group of people using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin transactions are recorded on a public ledger called a blockchain, and it operates without the need for a central authority or government. Bitcoin can be used for various transactions, including online purchases, investments, and remittances. The supply of Bitcoin is limited to 21 million coins, making it a deflationary asset. Bitcoin's value is determined by supply and demand in the market, and it is known for its price volatility..."

My post was a 'play on words' ... User ID

Hope that helps

I’m guessing he knew that. It’s just that it wasn’t a particularly clever or funny play on words.

I have received a few emails stating I have been noted as a person qualified for a employment with a local company. For the record, I live in a small town with a popuplation of less that 10,000 people, I am in my 70s, retired several years ago, and have not sought employment for quite a few years. The scammers are willong to try anything, numerous times.

If you think caller ID will save you, think again. A few wks ago I got a call supposedly from "Dish Network". At least that's what my caller ID said. They needed to update my receiver software. Long back & forth, they needed 149.00 to initiate that upgrade & needed my banking info. From another phone, I contacted Dish Network & was told they do upgrades automatically & never charge for them. Goodbye to the fake Dish Network folks. BTW, When I called the fake #, it actually was answered AS Dish Network! Very crafty people.

It probably was Dish Network’s real number. The number your caller ID shows is not necessarily the number that made the call. They call from one number but spoof it so it looks like it’s coming from another. They spoofed the Dish Network number so that it would show up on your caller ID and you wouldn’t have the actual number they called from to track them.
