Apparently, nothing happened to him. Here is the link to his active YouTube page with 4 videos from the last week alone. It just appears that he has not been doing any lens reviews for quite some time. His current videos are mostly philosophical.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVcxJ9k14bi__-uA1cGkEcAI haven't watched his 'show' in awhile. After a few months his stuff got repetitious, but was entertaining.

With all the negative threads, I am most elated that I never had an encounter with him.
I steer clear of people like that because I would not want them to ruin my day!

He's around. He keeps insisting photography is "dead" in 2023-24. In a recent livestream I asked him why he doesn't do photography clips anymore. Same answer as above. I told him that was true in 2020-21 - everything was dead back then. He still insisted it's "dead" now - yeah maybe to some extent but "dead" is not the correct word.
I have been going to B&H occasionally in the past year or so since they relaxed the mask restrictions in NYC - to browse or buy. I can tell you judging from the traffic in that store photography is far from dead. The lines are as long as they were in 2019. People are browsing and buying at the display counters. Lot's of pros are there too judging from what they are buying. All of the departments are busy on the photography floor as well as the electronics floor.
Outside of B&H there is lots of tourism traffic since the last year and a half - lot's of people with cameras around their necks. Photography channels on YT are getting lots of traffic. I know several wedding photographers who are already booked for this year mostly. Of course, all the major makers are introducing new bodies and lenses, especially now in the Olympic year. Sure it's dead!
It seems once an idea cements in his head, it's impossible to change his mind even when shown the facts. But, I do enjoy listening to his philosophical talks and theories on magnetism and the universe - I do agree with him on many of those topics and he probably would have an interesting discussion with mainstream physicists if they dared to talk with him on stream. I just wish he would sneak an occasional photo stream in now and then, BUT OTOH, he is a bit subjective now with Fuji screwing him, and he thinks all the Z cameras and lenses are junk (true maybe for the original Z6/7 and early kit lenses). He was never a Canon guy, and he hates Sony....so I guess he would not have a lot to talk about after all! That might explain it.

Ken Wheeler is still there.
If I was interested in a lens I would watch his review. No matter his shooting skills he did seem to know about build quality and performance. He did recommend a lot of lenses that I bought and yes they were good. I think he was more mechanical than artistic when it came to shooting. A good mechanic can tell you the specs, build and expected performance of a car but may not be able to drive it in the Daytona race. Just my 2 cents

I wish he’d go back to talking about photography rather than conspiracy theories and esoteric nonsense.
I wonder if his interest will be piqued by the actions to identify AI vs real photographs?
The confrontation with Jason Lanier was one of the biggest mudslinger affair I ever witnessed. Ugly would be an understatment.

Philosophical? He’s a flat out conspiracy theorist.
The difference between a conspiracy theory and the truth, is about 6 months!
He's still around, but not commenting too much these days on Nikon or Fujifilm gear. Thanks to Ken Wheeler, I built my entire collection of three cameras and 40+ contemporary and classic Nikkor lenses based on his reviews and recommendations. My only disagreement with him is with my two Nikon Df's which he pooh-poohed. I love them along with my D850 which at one point he called the best DSLR camera on the market.

Cheers and best to you.
Jason Lanier! Now that's a name I don't see these days. Not since he lost his role with Sony.

He’s a joke as a photographer. He showed up to that portrait shoot with his medium format Fuji with a wide angle zoom and his homemade handheld flash that he had no idea how to use.
