There is no "a" in the line, he simply pauses... What we have here is...(pause, then quickly)...Failure to communicate.

This has been a fun read. I'm glad I ran across the article that listed 11 of the top movie quotes.

One puzzling thing though is that there are no Mae West quotes, and she had some of the best! I read that most of her quotable lines were made up by her, not some scriptwriter. Here are a few of her really good ones:

A man in the house is worth two in the street.

An ounce of performance is worth pounds of promises

Any time you’ve got nothing to do and lots of time to do it come on up

Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before

I didn’t discover curves; I only uncovered them.

It takes two to get one in trouble

Save a boyfriend for a rainy day – and another, in case it doesn’t rain.

She’s the kind of girl who climbed the ladder of success wrong by wrong.

When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I’ve never tried before.

When I’m good I’m very, very good, but when I’m bad, I’m better.

If we are using quotes from sources other than movies (plays, etc), here are a few from Author Robert A. Heinlein

1. A desire not to butt into other people's business is at least eighty percent of all human wisdom...and the other
twenty percent isn't very important.”

2. “Taxes are not levied for the benefit of the taxed.”

3. “You can sway a thousand men by appealing to their prejudices quicker than you can convince one man by
logic.”

4. A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a
building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give
orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer,
cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

But you do have an intended destination ultimately, getting back home.

I know that line is very popular but it's a misquote. The line goes, "Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges."

One of my favorites: In response to "Don't strike that child!" he snaps back, "No child of mine is going to say I don't love him!"
