New Area for Me

Just found this area on UHH. I'm not sure how I feel about AI yet. I've done several composites using several free-to-download images. With AI I have this feeling I'm cheating.

I wanted to try a free site to see what I could do and if I liked the concept. This is my first try. The image is all AI with clean-up using Photoshop. I like the image but don't feel it's really mine.

I am always curious what text people used to generate AI images. Nobody seems to post that.

You are the only reason this image exists. And as you learn to specify the right criteria to get exactly the results that you want you'll gain more and more control over the output. I believe that's the nature of AI as a creative tool.

My take on AI graphics is that I’m an artist and this is my canvas - so create to your hearts content, and be sure to sign your work.

I like the image but I too am unsure about AI work being a real representation of personal art. With time I may come around.

It all comes from perspective - I’m also a computer programmer and look at my completed code as a form of art - starting with nothing but an idea and writing the code to create my desired outcome. Similar to an artist or a musician - starting with an idea and creating a piece of work - some with paint, some with musical instruments - I have the computer as the tool to help me create.

Beautifully done image Jim. In the construction of composite images I can't see the difference in using photographs downloaded from various internet sources or images created to my specifications using AI.

On this one, I typed "Steampunk, Blimp" That was it. I asked for two versions. The first one was bad, a third of the image was missing, bleeding off the page. What you see is the second version that created the Blimp, Sky and Ground. I used Photoshop to remove what looked like a second gondola and then some stray hanging lines.

The AI program is Fooocus

I like your thought process. Thank you.

Thought I’d left a response to this last evening but it seems to have got lost Jim. I reckon with AI like this you’re the author, not the artist, so the ‘it’s mine’ feeling will be missing. For commercial use, concept artists and the like that probably doesn’t matter and the time saved is useful. Likewise for the times you’re making an image that includes something you simply don’t have or couldn’t take a shot of. So far I’ve resisted and will probably continue to do so - I’ll have to leave it to you and Curmudgeon, who has made some very attractive stuff.
There is something else to think about though - the following from the NY Times briefing of a day or two back makes the point.

Me too Jack, for the creator there is no real difference - but AI may give more ‘it’s mine’ feeling due to the requirement to create the specification you refer to?

Looks good. I do see the nose of the blimp is transparent as the sky is seen through it or it could be a reflection but I don't think so.

It would be the reflection of the sky because the sky behind has more white puffy clouds therefore white on the nose instead of so much blue.

I find little difference in creating a composite from your own images, or off the internet or AI generated. It all comes down to the “ creator”. The improvements in programs like PS make it easier to do extractions. But it is still your vision.
A week or so ago I saw a a YouTube video on the set up to do a fanciful photo. It was all done with in the camera on one frame. Even if it took 50 tries to get it right.
Just as cameras have evolved so has creating an image.
