Here’s a sample machine with an options to upgrade:

Intel 1-7 13700K $365 (upgrade to I-9 13900k: +$200)
NVidia 4060 8GB. $290 (upgrade to 4060 TI 16GB or 4070 +$160-200)
Corsair DDR5 32GB $90 (upgrade to 64GB +$90)
Samsung 980 Pro 2TB $130 (upgrade to 990 Pro +$50)
ASUS TUF Z790 MB $230
CoolMaster CPU cooler $60
CoolMaster 600W Power Supply $60
CoolMaster case $100
Windows 11 Pro ($60-130 depending on source)

Total: $1385
Or upgrade to I-9, 4070/4060TI, 64GB and 990 SSD: $1885

Assemble yourself (easy) or pay a shop $100-$200 to do it for you. The advantage is name brand components and expandability.

Yeah... Well... I threw it out there for anyone who is looking for a new computer for serious photo/video editing. However, I do expect Apple to release new M3 Mac minis and M3 Pro Mac minis in the Spring, along with new MacBook Air M3 models.

I have an M1 MacBook Air (8 cpu, 8 gpu, 16 npu, 16 GB memory, 1TB storage) that is plenty sufficient for LrC/Ps and light 4K video editing in Final Cut Pro. I have never been able to make it choke. It barely ever gets warm, and it has NO FAN. Apple Silicon is amazing.

I agree! M1 Mac Mini with 16 and 1TB ssd. In a Photoshop with 10 pc users including expensive gaming PC my M1 Mac Mini blew their socks off.

Yep, as I told you earlier my iMac24 with upgraded SSD and 16 Gb of memory using M3 silicon is AMAZING... Why need more speed for LR as it is mostly organizational ? Of course everyone has diff. objectives. Tanks again for the Apple info...

I probably do 80% of my photo processing in LrC. Ps gets most of the other 20%. The M1 handles it easily.

The 24" M3 iMac is a great all-in-one for those who need a whole new system. It has great speakers, a great webcam, a great monitor, comes with a keyboard and mouse and/or trackpad (several choices there), and can be had with two 40Gbps Thunderbolt/UB4 ports and two USB-C 10Gbps ports and wired gigabit Ethernet. I recommend at least 16GB memory and 512 GB storage.

Mine is a few years old now. i9 processor, 64GB RAM, 3 internal drives (C-OS & apps 512GB solid state, D-documents 1TB, P-photos and videos 6TB) and a 12TB external for backups.
My video card is Nvidia 2GB, but since I do 99.99% stills it does just fine.

Unless something happens to it, I expect it will do me for the rest of my life. I am 78, but I did have several relatives who made late 80s, 90s and one great aunt who missed 102 by 2 weeks and worked in our small hometown hardware store until her late 90s. So I may outlive this computer, or at least the video card.

I was a Intel guy for 30 years but switched to AMD about 3 years ago. They are still a few years ahead. Make sure you have a good video with fast GPU. Mine has 12 gigs of ram. I would get at least a 1 TB SSD. The prices on SSD drives have come down so far that you can get 4 tb for what a 1 tb a little over a year ago.

I use an iMac (apple desktop) with their new "M" chips. First class all the way, although a bigger monitor (I used to use a 27") would be an improvement over my 24".

Since you have a top end monitor, the new Mac Mini with M2 chip, with max Ram, would do a whiz bang job of it. Apple might tout you on their "Studio" computer, but for Lightroom and photoshop it is probably overkill.

Worth looking into.

I was the original poster with the question. I am a PC person. I believe one responded listed a website to check out. If so, I can't find it among the posts. Thanks.

yep bill those were the MEM and SSD upgrades I got. Had to do a 175 mile roundtrip to Best Buy in Chattanooga because Amazon could not seem to send me the right one with the right cables on an ext. hard drive. I did NOT want to reformat and I did not want to have to chuck the cables and buy new one or adapters... Appletime picked it up immedietly, quick virus scan, and 1 min. later I was in business... Easy Peasy.

I've never played a video game on it, but got a Dell Alienware gaming computer a year ago and it is super-fast and powerful! A great decision for me! And I even got some extra credit "cool" points from my grandchildren because of the alien logo on it. Ha ha! Seriously, I know very little about computer stuff but this one has been great for PS and LRC. Just my 2 cents from a non-techy photographer....

My desktop is wearing out and I am buying a new desktop. I use Lightroom Classic. I will use a Benq, 32 inch monitor. It has been recommended that I buy a gaming computer for picture quality and speed. I am especially interested in picture quality. What computer and/or computer components do you recommend? I am already committed to buying 32GS of RAM. Thanks

hl,
Consider a 512 GB SSD for C drive (for the operating system and programs), a D drive (for data) that's twice the capacity of your current photo library and two (or more) external drives that have the same capacity of your D drive (for backups).
And, if you still have cash leftover, consider getting SSD's for your D drive and your external drives.

I'd suggest buying a Mac.
