Advertisers don't like decreasing membership/viewer numbers.

I'll bet many don't even realize it can be changed, they don't "read", they just post.
I’ve complained several times when a photo is posted here instead of in the “Gallery”. Usual response is “it was an accident”.

It was!
They accidentally didn't know (watch) what they were doing.
I miss the section called Photo galley where just picture were posted. Please go back to that set up

I believe you are correct that the volume of topics of general interest in this section has declined significantly. I do not believe that the subsections are the reason for this drop, because many of them are not very busy either.
I have noticed several trends, however:
Attempts at serious discussion that are not directed toward promoting mirrorless technology are routinely attacked and denigrated by a fairly small but very predictable group of bullies and detractors.
Attempts at serious discussion that are not directed toward saving raw files and doing extensive post processing are routinely attacked and denigrated by a fairly small but very predictable group of bullies and detractors.
A number of knowledgeable and helpful posters have either ceased posting altogether or have significantly reduced their contributions.
Although the vast majority of members are certainly continuing to pursue their interest in photography with mirror box camera equipment, those in this group (including me) have demonstrated, and continue to demonstrate, that we do not feel that we have a viable platform to discuss those questions, issues, and problems here. I have a list of topics that I would like to initiate, but they will never see the light of day here, simply because I do not have any interest in dealing with the trolls and detractors. I have other venues where I am discussing those topics quite productively and without anywhere near the indigestion and heartburn that would arise here.
In short...I believe that you are observing the slow death of this forum due to the bad behavior of the participants.

I agree that many do not wish to participate because of the bad behavior, sarcastic comments, negative attitudes and detractors here. I enjoy reading many of the suggestions, advice and constructive critiques provided by members. I do not apprciate the sarcasm and biting criticism of others. Some of the reasons I do not post many photos.

You can only discuss the virtues of teleconverters, smart phones, and which brand is best, a limited number of times until folks just wear out.

Your comments are 100% spot on !!
It's unfortunate (for me), but I don't spend nearly as much time on the HOG as I used to. I don't care what anyone says in defense of the new format. And apparently, I'm not the only one. Oh well.

Keep in mind that those of us who enter via the home page have not seen what is called "the change in format." All that has changed, as far as I can tell, is the linkage between the Digest emailand the forum.

Same here. When I go to UHH I see links to 4 sections, plus a link to "All Sections". It's been the same for as long as I can remember. I like simplicity!

It is my personal opinion that participation on UHH in general is down.
It is also my opinion that the reason for that is largely due to needless insulting comments and arguments being allowed to continue on this forum, driving away some seasoned members, and preventing new members from joining.
My participation is down considerably for that very reason.
