But it looks much better in DL.
Original image from MidJourney. Basic processing in ACR. Converted to a B&W Pencil Sketch in Photoshop. B&W image to NIK Silver Efex Pro to find a filter I liked. I learned something new in this exercise, sliders in the filter have little or no effect on a B&W image.
It is better in download, Jack. Nice.

A page from an adventure book... the employer discovers a relic from eons ago. The encircling darkness enhances the foreboding emotion of the image. Well done Curmudgeon
It’s dark - oh, you told us that! It looks great in download, very dramatic and an interesting place - but I don’t want to spend Christmas there Jack!
The pencil sketch and darkness together create a compelling scene.
Yes, Silver Efex assumes you're starting with a color image; it converts the hues, tones, values and saturation of the presented colors, along with contrast, curves and so forth.
Try editing the same color scene a couple of different ways, then apply the same Silver Efex preset to each: you probably won't end up with the same result. Similar to blend modes I guess you could say, what goes into the recipe determines what comes out
