So my son just called to say that their new Maytag dryer, delivered AND installed by a Lowe’s contractor was not working correctly on auto dry. Apparently, auto dry measures the humidity existing from the vent to determine if the clothes are dry. It was a botched up installation with the new exhaust hose kinked and repaired with electrical tape. My son immediately suspected a clog in the exhaust hose, which goes up through the attic to the outside vent, so he took his shop vac and cleaned the hose from the attic side. When he unhooked the hose at the bottom, he discovered that the installer left the installation instructions in the hose, blocking the vent. Really?

That's what we have as a labor force in this country. They probably smoked a doobie while on the way to the job.

It’s a sad comment and not a great endorsement for Lowes either. I used to buy appliances from Lowes for both my home and rental properties when they did their own deliveries, but their 3rd party delivery/installation service is a nightmare, and when it turns out badly, NO ONE (not corporate customer service or even the selling store manager) has any way to communicate with them and profess not to even have their phone #. I don’t know if HD is any better, but I’ve bought my last appliance from Lowe’s.

We had a house built by this installer's brothers and cousins. Apparently the warranty means nothing.

I installed appliances for Loews for 17 years. During those years installers went from dedicated experts to poor workers and sloppy installations. The primary reasons for the decline was poor management and competition.
Installers were paid a flat rate for most jobs which were fair in the early days but Loews refused to keep up with installers rising costs. Installers were required to provide their own insurance, be certified if their installations required changes to electrical or plumbing connections and supply any parts not included with the appliance. Many installers only stayed with Loews for fill-in work when business was slow. Others just left.
I was lucky, I had an established repair and installation business with the necessary trade certifications and licenses to bid on non standard installations. This usually involved installing an appliance where none was before. I was able to quote the job to cover permits, labor, material and profit. Later, Loews went to a third party service and I left.

I recently had a storm door bought and installed by Lowes. Had a small issue with it closing properly. Guy back adjusted it and so far its' been fine.

My neighbor had a similar problem. Once it dried on a different mode. Told him to use it. Don't think the hose was clogged but paid a service person about 3 times to come out with no success. They thought it had something to do with the humidity sensor also. He tried all the different modes until he found one that worked & uses it.

Tell him to complain directly to the Lowe's store manger.
