I just received a "single-use code" from Microsoft. It's been so long since I (probably) requested it, that I have no idea what it's for. In four more days, Apple will send me a code so I can reset my password. So slooow!
That might have been a phishing attempt - I have seen things like that allegedly from Microsoft. Also 'single use codes" for facebook (which I am not on). And these bogus mails get sent to all of my email addresses, so it is obviously spam.
I also smell something 'phishy'. Everytime I've needed a single use code I've received it in seconds.

You've been lucky.
I should get my Apple code in three days.
I needed one from Apple, watched for the email. That didn't come. Then tried another way, given the choice, used phone number, got it immediately, and got in the Apple site.

From reading your posts, often I feel there’s a common denominator. Jerry? Be more careful?

You may be correct. I'll take my good luck when I can find it. 🤞

Yes, I decided to be more careful, so I printed various "Essential Words" and taped them to my Apples - yet, Apple wouldn't accept them. I have two Mac desktops, two laptops, (mostly from 2012) and an iPad 2. Apple seems to require too many secret codes.
