They did that so they could buy booze.

I remember Taking a Tin pail to the corner Tavern and getting a bucket of Draft beer for my Great Grand Father and I even crossed a major street.
I was maybe 10 years old!!

Not only were they old and smoked a lot, but they all wore 3 piece suits and hats in every scene, and the women were dressed and coiffed to the nines...

I saw a hard drive box like my old LaCie in an old sci-fi movie.

Any movies with a hard drive box I would not consider it as old.

Spock would insert something that looked like a big flash drive with data on it into the ship's computer.

Their side line work were as security guards in several businesses like banks, large stores nad the like. I did some work as a security guard to obtain the cash off of tables in large venues. Then I had to do the accounting for the bills used in the activities.

Even after all these years, I still am tempted to break the fingers of the Clemson folks who decided it would be cute to wet stamp the paw prints on the Two Dollar bills. The dollars jammed up the bill counters like crazy.

Well, there is something to that. People did look older back in the day. Just look at yearbook pictures from years ago.

One thought was that most young people were involved in WW II, but that didn't last all that long.

Funny story. Had a '93 Aerostar van. Red w/ custom wheels, all polished up. Re'did' the stereo: 13 speakers total, trebs-mids-bass separated, amped with a dedicated small amp for a 10" bass box in back. Pulled up to a stop light on the road out of the neighborhood, had Led Zep cranking. Had the windows down a bit. Car pulled up in left turn lane w/ teenagers looking around. Heard one of the kids say "Hey. It's the old guy in the van"!
I was 40 - ish. sheesh

And no, I did not have long hair. Looked professionally respectable. Well, then anyway.

They had iPads, too.

I see a lot of smoking in today's British shows. I would think they'd know better by now. You also see it a lot in TV shows from the 60s.

The story I've been told is that many actors are very self-conscious about their hands. On medium shots that show their hands, they have to be doing something with their hands and holding a cigarette was the easiest. Now that smoking is discouraged, in a typical scene an actor goes to the refrigerator and gets a can of beer, walks up to a table and pours a drink or fiddles with a phone, anything that puts something in their hands. Look carefully the next time you watch a movie.

I think it was a sci-fi movie, in color, having to do with dangers from outer space. That's the best I can do right now. I remember a man bringing that LaCie box to a place where the data could be analyzed.

I've been watching some old movies lately - like from the 1930s and 40s. I noticed something odd: most of the actors are old - like 60-plus. There are policemen who are way past the age of retirement. The same goes for doctors, nurses, and most other characters. I wonder if people simply worked until they dropped back then, or if having older characters made them have an air of authority.

I was watching an old Sherlock Holmes movie from 1944, and I saw what looked like an Omega enlarger. The enlarger originated in 1936, so it could have been what I saw. It made two appearances: in a plane as a bomb site and in a scientist's lab. I used one of them back in the day, and it stood right out to me.

I saw another piece of photo equipment in a James Bond film. A satellite was opening its antenna in space, and they used a flash gun with a folding reflector to represent the antenna. I still have the exact same unit.

I have taken photos of my parents by age and put photos of me next to them at the same age and my parents appear 10 years older them me. I attribute that to the depression in the 20's and WW II.
