17 year old senior in high school. When the principal announced it, since the class I was in was in the “new” building (a recent addition to our old high school) there was access to TV. The teacher had us hook up, and turn on, the TV… and we watched the news… until the busses were ready to take us home.

My birthday is November 22, and that day I had to attend my great aunt's funeral, and to get the morning off to attend the services, as a cadet at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Academy, I was required to wear my ClassA uniform, (that included, uniform, hat, gunbelt, weapon, everything that went with it, baton, cuffs, etc.) That is when my family found out I was a cop! The department even had I.A. drive by to make sure I was in full uniform.

On the way back to the Academy, I heard on the car radio that JFK was assented in Dallas, Tx. I pulled into the Academy parking lot, and had my door open, one foot on the blacktop, (parking lot pavement,) when I heard a booming voice behind me: "Hirschhorn, what are you doing on MY blacktop?) It was the command sergeant of the Academy. Without turning around, I blurted out, "shut the f--- up, President Kennedy has been assonated in Dallas, TX!

He, (the sergeant) knelt down by my open door and listened to the broadcast with me...a few minutes later, tears running from our eyes, we WALKED (cadets were not allowed to walk on the blacktop typical Marine boot camp requirements,) (ALL our instructors were former U.S. Marine D I's.) Anyway, reaching the auditorium, The sgt. walked up to the lecturn, and said, "Excuse the interruption Officer Bendy, but I have to announce that President Kennedy was assonated in Dallas TX.! You could have heard a pin drop, it was so quiet. For the rest of that day, everyone at the academy was glued to the radio.

In my mind, that day, every word, every action is INDELIBLY stamped into my memory.

Wel,60 years ago about this time I was out of the military about 3 years & experiencing a series of dead end jobs just before getting started in a career as a mechanic. Worked on about everything for a short period of time before settling into automotive technician. Really doing nothing more exciting than getting started out in marriage that lasted 59 years.

Someone came in and told our teacher.
He told us.

I, too, was in my Physics class High School, sophomore, when we were interrupted with the news. Part of my trip home was on the Chicago Eisenhower rail line to another CTA bus line to where I lived. As I recall, it was one of the quietest trip on an otherwise tumultuous segment of my trip home. It was very obvious that it hit the people around me very hard.

With new PhD degree in hand, was being interviewed for a job when the news spread. Interview cancelled, but never went back to finish it. Was hired on the spot at the next interview at another company.

3rd grade. Halfway up row, 1st desk, left side of room. Knock on the classroom door. Quiet conversation, teacher's hand on her mouth. Came in, sat down. "The President has been shot"!
Class cancelled. Buses took us home. Quiet chatter all the way.

I love reading this post because... it is amazing how many senior seniors there are in here. Makes me feel like a kid and I am 67.

I was in second grade and it is a lightning bolt memory. It was in the early morning after first recess, I was sitting at my desk. The teacher was talking and there was a knock at the classroom door. My teacher answered the door and it was another teacher who whispered quietly to her. Our teacher went to the back of the room near the exit door and announced we "...wwe will be going home, the President has been shot in Texas."

We had colored evacuation cards made of card stock with string neck holders. We put on our cards and went outside and lined up. It was a "walk home drill". My card was "peach" color. It took us about 20 mins to get home walking.

My Mom turned on our black and white TV and we watched Walter Cronkrite announce the President's death.

The biggest thing I remember was all of the teachers crying as we lined up to walk home.

My Mom, Brother and I watched in horror as we witnessed Lee Harvey Oswald get shot on Live TV.

When Kennedy was shot everyone thought it was the Communists that did it. There was fear that World War III was going to start because of this event.
