Where we you 60 years ago today...
Kunsan AB, Korea. The base immediately went on full alert.
I was the 8th grade in a health class. Someone told our teacher and she told us. All classes were cancelled and we were sent home.
I was in the fourth grade at St. John Berchman's Catholic elementary school in Detroit MI. The nun/teacher was called out into the hall, when she came back in she told us JFK had been shot in Dallas TX, there was a quick mass in the church where prayers were said, and we were sent home.
Taking a final in college (quarter system). The prof walked in, said the President had been shot and that he's dead. Handed out the exam and said we have two hours--begin.
Just walked out of a clinic after finishing a physical exam required for getting insurance at the University of Maryland. I had finished all my doctoral course work and was being hired as an Instructor while completing my dissertation. Truly shocking.
Kindergarten, but I remember everything like it was yesterday. Believe it or not, it changed my life in many ways.
Seven years old in second grade. We were standing in line (I think for lunch) when it was announced. When some of the teachers started crying, the serious nature of this event became apparent to us all.
I was in my first year of high school, science class. We lived in the Toronto area back then.

Junior in high school, in a typing class, when the announcement of the JFK shooting came over the PA system.
I too was 16 (born St. Patrick’s Day 1947), but I was a senior in H.S. I was on the bus home when I heard.
I was out deer hunting... got my first deer the day after Kennedy was shot. I was 16 at the time.
Parking my car in preparation to attend an English history class in college when I heard it on the radio. As I entered the class I told the professor I needed to make an announcement and did do. Very sad day.
7th grade, Miss Wallace came in crying, told us the news and then we were sent home.

I was in my second day of training to be a surgical technician. The manager of Central Supply (where we were learning about autoclaves) came in and said "The President's been shot" and then of course later he came back through to say the President had died. We continued our work and like everyone else I watched all the news over the weekend. I could only watch the funeral after work, in replays, with my dad. My dad was not a Kennedy fan but he had tears in his eyes watching the parade with the caisson bearing the coffin,, followed by the riderless horse.
