head stones, try and get one from every year date...IE 1952. 1953 etc.
plus you'll see a lot of different and sometimes funny stones. And some very sad.
and you'll get to see lots of places visiting cemetery's in other citys...I went back as far as some in the 1600 till I moved on to something else.
I believe you are spot on about the glass refraction. I thought for sure the focus and everything was locked in. However, when I got home and saw what I had shot, it was disappointing, to say the least.
Thanks Linda. I will give them a try
I just opened my monthly Photographic Society of America (PSA) magazine wherein the images of the year are depicted. That gives me motivation as something to strive for. There are excellent images, of all types, in the selection. If you have not, I suggest you join and take a look at the exceptional photography. Then, perhaps you can formulate a goal. I do know, for me, that posting in the Gallery (echo chamber of "nice shot") is no place to find motivation. Very high quality photography inspires me to try to meet that quality. I haven't quite gotten there, but its the struggle that matters.
I also saw in this thread that it was suggested that you post some of your photos so that, perhaps, some of the Hog community can help you on some technical issues that may be present. I did not see a response from you. Being coach-able is the surest way towards excellence. Keep doing the same wrong thing and you will get the same result....mediocrity. Join a camera club, join the PSA, seek advice and critique, learn, rinse and repeat.

I don't work actively to promote my skills as a photographer, but I would like to remain active and excited about taking pictures. Lately, I have been unable to come up with things to take pictures of. I recently went to the local aquarium thinking that would be exciting, however, all my photos turned out crappy. Poor lighting/ack of lighting plus those critters don't sit still for the shot-made for a waste of time and money. What can you guys suggest i.e. places to go, things to shoot, etc. that could get me really excited about taking pictures. Seems I am lacking in the area of focusing. I recently took some Halloween photos, which I thought the focus was spot on, only to have soft pictures.
Any suggestions on my request for help would be appreciated. Thanks

Pay more attention to your opportunities than your obstacles. When I find myself in a rut I just take my camera and go somewhere I've been to before and instead of looking for photo opps, I will sit quietly and take it all in with all of my senses - eventually image opps will reveal themselves. This may be best described as Contemplative Photography, which is easily searchable in google.

Gene, it’s good to see your post.
Your knowledge and experience is very helpfull here on the Hog!
There are rubber lens hoods that you press up against glass. They are designed to eliminate any glare or reflection caused by the glass. I don't own one yet, but plan on getting one for hotel rooms pictures when on road trips. I know one would have help when I was in Gatlinburg, TN at their aquarium.
