A strange picture, but in many wars there were moments of respite where common soldiers on both sides got together to even play games. Practices in WWI might not have been far from their minds, where this sort of fraternizing was not uncommon.

Too bad all wars could not be fought as these fellows are doing.

Yes, the world would be a great place to live if it wasn't for humans.

Well, there's an answer. Nuke the planet and let it start from scratch.

Coming up are the Holidays. . .And, I'm gonna plug several MY favorite "holiday" movies. . That fit right there with this photo: "Joyeux Noel:" a TRUE story that occurred in 1914; "No Man's Land;" and, "The Syrian Bride." ["The Syrian Bride" is particularly appropriate to NOW!]

They are NOT Jimmy Stewart-type films!

That’s an interesting take. It gives credence to the photo that otherwise might be taken as a contrived AI pic.

It was a reply to a post saying the world would be a great place if it weren't for humans. So, eradicate humans. It was a sarcastic response.

In a "Place of Respect" on my desk (That I may refer to it as often as necessary) is Jonathan Swift's wonderful essay, written in 1729: "A Modest Proposal". . ."for preventing the children in Ireland from being a burden to their parents or country; and, for making them beneficial to the Publick."

I won't quote you the substance of his "Proposal;" but, I suggest you read its several pages (14 in all) as cogent and pertinent today as it was nearly 300 years ago. . .<smile>

======
Y'all wanna suggest "sarcasm?" THIS is the best I've come across in my own 80+ years of "Thinking about the Human Situation!"

I've read it. Do I need to write 14 pages to make the point I did in a sentence in order to impress you? I'm more of an Algonquin Round Table guy.

Steve: Though I do "pick & choose" where I poke in my nose, I DO agree with you (re: the Alongonquins). . .I went back and re-checked the "members" [a loose term for a group of that sort!]. . .And, I sorta wish I could've lived a hundred years ago; and, peeked in on Them. Old Jonathan Swift would've liked them also! And, they'd have voted him in as "Chairman of the Board!" (Check a private message I just sent you)

Judging by what we see in places like the Attic, we'll need to outlaw a lot more than politicians if you really want peace.

Unfortunately, you are correct in your assessment. I used to be optimistic about the possibility of achieving peace but in the last few years that optimism has been sorely tested. So many persons today glorify violence and even more have lost the ability to reason.

Nuking the planet would also kill off innocent creatures and plants that have had no part in creating the products of our folly. Also, there are still a lot of people who are reasonable, compassionate, and basically good folks. Some of my optimism that the human race is capable of something better has not died.

I think the message of cooperation in this photo is great. But if this is a wartime photo I would have expected it to be in B&W. Maybe it's colorized.

That's a good point. Is this perhaps from a movie?
