My wife has always told me, " You look but you don't see". LOL. I suspect most married men have heard this before.
Well, on a recent morning walk in my neighborhood, I saw. I have walked by this enormous retaining wall many times but on this day, it caught my attention. For some reason, I thought the shadows on the blocks looked like Martini glasses. I'm a bourbon guy so I have no idea where this came from. Hmm, what can I do with that? I also took a couple other images from that wall. See below.
So, what do you think? Do these images qualify as "Digital Art" or am I climbing up the wrong wall?
When an image is all about shape, pattern and texture it's a good candidate for B&W. What is and isn't art is a very subjective subject and each of us is entitled to our own preferences and opinions. If you consider these images to be art, who's to tell you they aren't? I would say "Yes" but I have a very limited appetite for that kind of art.
What I like most about this topic is you've demonstrated the value of exploring many aspects of a subject. You've set the scene with a documentary photo, then taken us to abstract land, and beyond. Very enjoyable series!
"Do these images qualify as Digital Art?"I personally don't have any interest in defining art - digital or otherwise - I much prefer to just enjoy and be inspired by our diverse, supportive and talented members who share their time and creations in this section.
For a historical perspective of Digital Artistry Forum:
Bob Yankle took over "The Exploration of Digital Artistry" in 2016. At that time it was an invitation-only forum. You will find many photos posted in the early years that are not heavily manipulated in pp. In 2020 he opened D.A. to all UHH members.
In the spring of 2021 Bob turned over management to cwilson341. She enlisted me (or maybe I volunteered
) to be co-manager.
Since then we've tweaked the section rules a couple of times (and shortened the forum name) to reflect members' interests and the fact that all sections of UHH have crossover, and also that some other specialty sections have gained or lost membership.
I hope the section continues to grow, and that everyone enjoys our little corner of UHH!
I didn’t see the martini glasses until you pointed them out. To me the second image looks more like a cat face. But that’s probably just because I see them more often.
I really like the last two. The second to last pulls my eye the whole way through the frame. The strong diagonals give it a feeling of movement that wouldn’t be there in a straight-on shot. In the last one, the branch is a perfect break of the repeating pattern of the blocks.
I’m not qualified to judge what art is to anyone else. For example, I’m often surprised by what hotels place on their walls. To me most of these images qualify as art.

I've walked past that wall many times and I didn't see any martini glasses either until recently. Thanks for your response.

Good eye, nice shot. Who cares if it's Digital Art. It got my attention and held it an yes I see the martini glasses

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
To me, it doesn't matter what kind of art you want to call it. I like it!
