I don't want to roil the waters. As I tried to explain in my original commentary, I made a purposeful decision to leave my Nikon DSLRs at home for this trip. On a previous trip, I had several experiences where my phone took a better SOOC shot than did my D7500. Since I also have the latest Lightroom, ON1 and Luminar NEO image software, I think I can pretty well make any necessary adjustments when I arrive home. I doubt all but the most experienced and professional photographers could determine a difference. I'm not shooting
for National Geographic or to sell my photos (although I've done so in the past). My intent in posting this photo was simply to express my joy at fulfilling a long-held dream with visual evidence.

Thank you all for your wonderful and kind comments.

A cool place I will never see. Glad you made it.

My mother used to tell me frequently that, "Never is a very, very long time." Never say never!

And maybe one you've had on your list, too. Given the active itinerary and travel arrangements, I decided to go smartphone-only. I have an Apple iPhone 14 Pro and sometimes enhance it with a XenvoPro wide-angle/macro lens. Posted also in the smartphone subforum.

This is Machu Picchu. My wife and I wanted to vacation there when we married in 1973. She got pregnant and the doctor forbade her from travel that distance and altitude. We never made it. But, here I am, fifty years later, now solo, fulfilling a dream.

SOOC, as this was taken only earlier today, and I'm now resting up in my hotel room.

Wow!
I have looked at, even studied hundreds of photos of this fantastic place. You picked a great vantage point that shows so much more of that side than anything I have seen to date. I too am hoping that when you get home that you post a lot more of your photos, and and share your thoughts on the architecture and the people(s) who built and rebuilt this place.

Cell phone, point n shoot, they're a lot lighter and easier to carry on an excursion like this. I think you made a good choice.

Like Dick Van Dyke says, "Keep moving."

Excellent, Fred. And did you enjoy the race with the Native kids to the bottom of the mountain?

Taking another look at your photo. You can see the evolution of the building of the terrasses that I think we're used for growing crops, much like rice fields.

What a pompous comment, especially coming from someone of your calibre!!

Here in Australia we have a name for someone like that, commonly known as a DICKHEAD..
