I know - it's not logical to expect a fictional horror movie to make sense, but here's a ridiculous situation. A 474 is flying from the USA to Japan over the Pacific Ocean. Without giving away the stupid plot, the ground lost radio contact with the plane. At a press conference, the man said that it had been flying for about five hours, and they assume it ran out of fuel and crashed into the Pacific Ocean.

The flight was scheduled for over six hours - across the Pacific. Why would it run out of fuel after five hours? Did it plan on in-flight refueling? If anything, it would have crashed in Japan or China.

Hard to say...

Those 474's are tricky.

The title of the film is "Flight 7500." Some of you may know that "7500" is a signal of trouble on an airliner.

You meant a 747 or the film said it was a 474. Flying time from San Franciso which is about closet to Japan from the USA is over 11 hours.

I was once watching a movie where a plane was carrying everyone in the movie. All of a sudden they show the plane crashing full bore into a mountain and exploding. Now everyone is dead half way through the movie. It was like, OK everyone's dead, no plot left???? It really was a minute or several before it became apparent they had spliced in an advertisement for another movie, similar imagery, etc. with no warning or break, just boom, everyone's gone.

Lots of SYFI movies have inconsistencies even within the limits set by their fictional nature.

Hawaii is still 9 hours away from Japan. So if it ran out of fuel in 5 hours then it's scheduled to be doomed.

Anything can happen in movies. People come back from the dead, survive huge explosions, are punched, kicked, stabbed, shot, and more, then over power the bad guy and save the day. Plus after treatment only has minor injuries.

In vehice chases, the cars or trucks are crashed into numerous other vehicles and objects amd at the end are still only slightly dented or scratched. Firearms can shoot unlimited rounds without needing to reload, until the bad guy is about to shoot the hero, then he is out of bullets. Swords can cut through large metal posts and large trees in a single swipe.

I think it is considered "artistic license."

I've been thinking about this and I think I've figured out what's going on. A Chinees spy was on board smuggling US top secrets plans on a device that could defend the our homeland from every possible external threat, (just not internal threats, yet). Now in order to cover up the dastardly deed they killed one of the cone shaped flashlight waving person, he or she, not sure, and planted a small shaped charge on the gas tank. Now once they were approximately 5 hours into the flight and unbeknownst to the spy, or he would never have signed on to this mission, they blew the charge and downed the plane into the drink. And now comes the plot twist, you probably didn't see this coming. Waiting rght at the crash site was a Red Chinees sub. Been there for days just silently waiting, watching for the little blip of an airtag that had been super glued to the flash drive. Just patiently waiting for that blip to show up on their brand new airbag radar. And we never knew what hit us.

It ran out of fuel because a mechanic who swapped out the engine didn't read the paperwork that came with the new engine.
He was also supposed to put in a new fuel line which was slightly longer than the old one that was on the swapped-out engine.
