All Major majors have been working on this, and perhaps both the upcoming Canon R1 and Sony A1 version 2 will also have global shutters , and Nikon and Panasonic may have a fullframe one soon also. But Sony has another first in a consumer fullframe mirrorless camera.

Cheers and best to you all, whatever your brand you prefer.

If I was more than shooting for fun, or had a few more $$$ stashed away, I would be all over this camera! It looks like a real winner.

But at $6000.00, I feel I might go to the Nikon z8 with also has pre capture, which is what I really wanted.

I believe even some of the phones have had that for a while.

The only issue with a global shutter is that it cannot work as fast as a rolling shutter. I believe the top will be about 26 FPS. RAW vs. my A1 at 30 fps. RAW, you might think this is not much but for me that extra 4 frames could be a deal breaker on birds in flight to get that perfect shot.
This is not a complaint, I use Sony's.
My basic wish list is very short, I want "pre exposure" on the Sony a9III, if it does not have it, I will not buy it.

It has pre-exposure, and it can do it with RAWs! And it can capture at 120 fps!

This also opens the door for computational photography such as is now in cell phones. Not saying that this camera is going there, but some camera down the road will. Perhaps in a future RX100VIII?

Global shutter is going to make ruins of the after market...at some point.

Those looking to maximize the value of their ..now antiquated gear...will have to get the timing right for selling.

It's just a flagship now...but it's coming to other models...
And rolling shutter bodies are going to be closed out...making the old models..undesirable...at least in resale ratios.

Watch the birdie...not yet...but soon.

But then we will need an Ai APP to make the decision as to whether frame 329,678 is sharper and more pleasing than frame 326,301, or was it frame 302,153?

Good point. I waste time now and get frustrated choosing the best one between 3 or 4 frames in a burst that I accidently took at only 2 or 4 fps. I 99% of the time do not purposely shoot multiple exposures but shoot one at a time, but occasionally the camera accidently gets set to taking a burst. I'd go nuts if I had to choose between hundreds.

I usually set my camera {on purpose} to a slowish burst rate because I don’t think in those terms.

How many DSLRs are Canon and Nikon selling now? That might give an idea of how many people are stampeded into getting ‘the latest and greatest” regardless of what they actually need.

Actually I have no idea what burst rate my various cameras are set to when that feature is accidently activated. I have a bunch of different cameras. Like I said, I don't shoot bursts (on purpose). Perhaps I should look and set each for the slowest rate anyway.

I had the A9II and currently use the A1. I am envious of the flash capabilities and pre-exposure but since I crop mostly, 24 MP is a deal breaker. When the A7RV replacement gets a global shutter I will consider.

Yes it isn't for everyone at $6 K.

But now we will all want a global shutter and these features in whichever camera we have. LOL

Cheers and best to you.

Some of you will. I’m content with the usual design - I still haven’t heard of something that attracts me {I still use DSLR}

Mirrorless outsells DSLR nowadays, and DSLR sales (still significant) are in decline worldwide, while mirrorless sales are increasing. The BCN numbers show that.

People buy gear for what performance and creative choices it can give them, more than those who buy to have the latest.

Cheers and best to you.

That’s not the question I asked. Some people have ‘’stuck’ with DSLR. I’m not sure what their reasons are. I don’t know off-hand whether this will change their reasons. You should not assume that they will change now - burst speed, etc, may not be important to them. When our older daughter got married, the photographer had us stop at a particular point - burst speed clearly didn’t matter to her; I suspect manners are more important to her than is using equipment in the headlines. We will see whether they change now.
