Excellent capture, Beth, lucky for you that it did not attack.

Very well done, you never know what to expect shooting wildlife.

That is a great bear photo. A bear on a mission, for sure. It is seriously dramatic and well composed. I think it’s just right on it’s own and the other bear was just extra. Thanks for sharing that.

I skipped back to Alaska and looked for a photo I hoped turned out. This was a bucket list photo of a bear running right towards me in Lake Clark. I can't say this is exactly what I wanted, but it is as close as I got this trip.

I was not really ready for it when this bear suddenly decided to run in our direction. Due to it being overcast I was keeping my shutter speed down to keep the ISO down while the bears were not doing much except digging in the sand and mud for clams. So, when this happened I was only at 1/800 second, 324mm focal length.
I attached a screen shot of the crop. So yes it did get close, but at some point it noticed us and veered off. I have a couple more after this was taken, but they are not as good.

This means I will have to go back and work on getting the exact shot I thought I wanted...
Hope you like it.

Wonderful photo. I don't think I would've been able to press the shutter while I was wetting myself at the same time.

I agree, just thought it would have been nice to have both compositions. Two running bears coming to me for a photo!!,

If I had 2 bears running at me, I am not sure I would stand around long enough to GET a picture. Or at least have steady enough hands...even with a tripod. LOL

I know better than to run away, but wow, that would a tough instinct to ignore. I would make sure the salmon costume stayed back at the hotel. No need to tempt a hungy bear.

It is a wonderful shot, the bear does not look like he came over to discuss the weather. You are, in addition to being a fantastic photographer also a very brave woman. Most people, regardless of gender, would think of how to deal with clammy underwear.
Poul.

I agree with everyone else - the crop is perfect. And I don't understand what you man by "relatively in focus" - the eyes are as sharp as can be and looking right into the camera. That shot is a wall-hanger!

Funny! Good advice, don’t go trick or treating in bear country dressed like a salmon! I’ll be sure to remember that.
