Have had this printer for several years, works reliably. till now Won't print anything( after i printed a test page) Says "Printer needs attention" Tried some online canon help & they wanted to charge me , a small fee, after initial "chat"
Nope ! anyway i still don't know what "attention is needed" my guess is that because i have 3 of 8 non oem ink cartridges installed, anybody else have this problem ? Thank you for all sincere replies.

I had something like that with my HP printer... only to found out it was the "after market", ink cartridges. Hope yours is a simple fix like mine was.

I own this printer and just started refilling with third party ink. Are any of your carts showing (blinking} that they are out of ink? Do these non-oem carts require you to reset the chip? Are these carts transparent in that you can see the ink level? You may be out of ink in one of them. I use Precision Colors refillable carts and they use a chip resetter which resets the chip to show they are full when you refill them.

As a last resort replace the non-oem carts with oem and see if that targets the problem. Since you only have three non-oem carts installed then it seems you haven't been using non-oem carts for long. I would target one of those as being the problem. Also you may have to replace all your carts with fresh oem ones.

I have the Pro-100 Canon and I have been using non-OEM Cartridges for well over 3 years now and haven't had a problem as yet. I have a friend that is pretty much a wizard with the P-100 and he tells me that after some time from cleaning the print heads and etc. the ink collects in the bottom of the case. This might be your problem.
When I bought my P-100 I bought a 2nd one to keep still boxed as a back up. I buy my ink from LD Products and haven't had a problem yet. My printer is only a very few years old.

By the way, LD Products guarantees their Cartridges for life. I have only had a problem with one and they sent me a replacement no charge.

I've had a Canon Pro-100 for many years and found it to be bulletproof. I've never used anything but Canon genuine ink, and I don't print borderless.

Good luck with resolving this problem.

First and foremost — *Canon will not charge you for help*!! You’ve dialed a spoofing number. Go to USA.canon.com (on tablet and don’t know how to copy exact link) and then find their ‘support’ page for the correct phone number.

But also, I would agree with the several comments about using 3d party inks - especially the ‘bargain’ brands. (There are some, such as precisioncolors.com that have reputations for top quality products and good communication with customers.)

You may have to purchase and install a new print head - probably around $200 to $300 - or just replace the printer with a newer Pro-200 model. OEM ink is less expensive on the newer Pro-200, but still not cheap.

Let us know your final decision/results - and good luck!

If you are going to use non-OEM inks, all of them should be non-OEM from the same manufacturer. Precision Color is a known good source.

That said, if you use third party inks, expect to need all new paper profiles to get the most accurate color, especially reds.

If your printer has a utility that offers a cleaning cycle, try that, to see if it unclogs the print heads.

Some printers have waste ink tanks that need periodic replacement. Others have non-removable waste ink collectors that, when full, render the printer useless.

If your printer is more than five years old, and no longer sold, finding service for it is probably futile and may be throwing good money away on bad equipment repair. The Canon Pixma Pro-200 is a worthy replacement.

There is a waste tank where the ink from the cleaning cycles which happens every-time you print after the printer has been unused for over a day or so or turned on. Once full, unless you are very mechanically inclined, throw the printer in the recycle bin! I believe you would get an error code or message that tells you when the tank is full if this is the problem.

Virtually Impossible to use 3rd party ink cartridges in the newer Pro-200. The cartridges are totally black and you can’t reset the chips! I sold my Pro-200 and bought a new Pro-100 and use 3rd party cartridges without a problem. I print a lot of pictures and save much $$ over OEM ink.

You might double check the site where Canon wanted to charge you. Sometimes a site looks like the 'real site,' but is actually a 3rd party site that will help you for a fee....I ran into this once when I had a Windows error and the little fee as pretty big when I thought I had gone to the Microsoft site.

Good luck getting you Pro 100 printing again. I have the Pro 10 and think it is a great machine, but a couple of times a year I do need to go through all the maintenance steps, and cleaning steps to keep it printing.

I’m pretty sure the -100 doesn’t have a waste tank (my -10 doesn’t).

But, I believe that Canon 13” printers go through an abbreviated cleaning cycle about every 60 hours - slowly but surely filling that little, spongy, 1” wide track just beneath the print head guide.

But, to add to what Bill has said many times *do not print borderless*! Filling out that 3/16th to 1/4 inch border uses an awful lot of ink, perhaps as much as 7% to 10% as the rest of the print - because it is mostly overspray that gets wasted, filling up that “little, spongy” thingy, helping to increase the already high cost of OEM ink.

I’d take it face value. Spend some time with it. Buy it a drink, and not some cheap non-OEM drink. Really listen. It sounds like it’s feeling neglected.

I use refillable cartridges made just for my Canon 100. With a 4 or 8 oz bottle of ink (black I buy 16 oz) refills are cheaper than after market ink. Of course that is spread out over a bunch of refills from the bottles. The original purchase price was much higher than a set of anything but OEM ink. But when the photo club at the Senior Center was really active I did a lot of 11x14 and 13x19 prints so it was worth it. Now that a bunch have died, moved or no longer get out and about I do few prints and the remaining half of my last bottles I bought will last me a long time.

As to the ink used in cleaning cycle, now I just turn it off between uses so I only get one cleaning cycle per print session.

I also have a Pro-100 and previous Canon printers. Also use LD products with no problems. In 15+ years had one cartridge fail and replaced. Terrific customer service.
