The only memory cards that have failed on me have been a couple of SanDisk MicroSDs. Still, I think I should play it safe and order replacements for my current SD cards. A couple of my cameras have two card slots, but if one of them fails, that leaves me with just one, and if that fails...
I have two SD cards from July 2022, but the others go back several years. Yes, they work, but how long will they continue working? I've heard too many stories about people taking hundreds of pictures and having them all disappear.

How many spare cars do you have, just in case? Some cards live for long time and others allegedly croak prematurely. If you're truly in an angst tizzy buy many small cards in case you lose one. Then you only have worry about them filling quickly and missing shots while you swap one out.
Fwiw, For all my years with digital, I have yet to have an issue. There are too many unknowns when people have issues with cards. Same for a car!

You are definitely "pithy," Doug. 😋
Some of my cards are over 15 years old.
They will work until they don't, just like everything else.
I do have spare cards though, primarily for using for pictures, if and when I fill cards.
My 12+ year old cameras only have one slot.
I guess I'm SOL
Maybe I should get another camera in case one breaks.
Not.

I always have problem with car. Other things I do have problem from time to time but nothing compared to car. Also all my gear last a long time but not car. To me car is the one type of machinery I need and own that gives me the most problems.
My dad bought a Marelli fan when I was born 68 years ago and it's still working today.

What brand, source and size are you thinking of?
Yea, I'm not picky, other than Sandisk.
I've no need for speed.
The ones I have are probably faster than my camera transfer rate, which gains nothing.
I've been using SanDisk 64GB with my D850. Big files. Never had one fail. The D850 has two card slots. I have never been tempted to use the second one!

Easy place to carry a spare...
