Well, he is a Pentax shooter so victim it is. Although he’s chosen his own victim hood.

I may be using more film
I would think that would be of interest to the manager of the “Film photography” section.

Not Pentax.
They are staying in their ‘SLR’ niche
and are talking about producing Film cameras again.

I have two Nikons from the D3000 family. I am always amazed when I meet a photographer who tells me that my gear is "holding me back." I cut my teeth on film and learned all about exposure. Using the proper gear (like a tripod and filters), I am never held back in any photographic situation. I know what I'm doing and take the photographs I want.

My D200 was holding me back until I got a D3.

The more the merrier! No processing requirements of the scans, nor even memory of the exposure parameters. Just try to remember the film type, since most haven't seen anything new in film in a while.

My Pentax “Super Program” {which I purchased in 1983} has a little place to put the end of a box of film, while my Olympus “Infinity” {which I purchased a decade later} had a little window which showed {I keep using past tense because it came out} the tongue where film came out of the can; we don’t know yet how the new Pentax compact camera will address that issue, but I’m sure that people will find a solution.

Yes, the cell phone/camera useage has exploded in certain segments of society, but I think maybe you are influenced by those who are more interested in social media on a computer display, and getting thumbs up on pics of their food or latest holiday etc.
On a predominantly 'photography' orientated forum like UHH, (sometimes with a social bias ), many members are more interested in making pictures they are more than proud of to display on the wall, and striving to achieve a result that is more than the just 'above an average' photo.
Like it or not, technology has progressed over the years and prices for 'professional' type cameras has fallen, especially in the 'used' market. Their are reasons that very advanced and pro photographers use these expensive cameras. And keen hobbyists, striving to emulate their peers, can now take advantage of the technological advancements that pro's have known about for years.
But of course they have an additional price to pay. And that's time.
Time learning the same skills as the pro's.
An expensive modern camera requires the photographer to spend time learning how to get the best performance out of the technology, which includes of course, saving the RAW files and spending time developing the 'modern' Negative (sic).
A new camera alone doth not an artist make
Yes, the cell phone/camera useage has exploded in ... (show quote)

I agree. By the way, what is the breed and name of your Avatar dog? Sure is a fine looking companion!

I’m not sure how much a smart phone costs these days.

Also, a nebulous variable is the $$ difference between selling off an SLR and purchasing an EVF to replace it ... body for body, used for used. In my case, about $650. The upgraded viewing and focusing is easily worth $650 to me. All other improvement is a zero $ bonus.

"True Confession": Could not resist Canons super compact RF 16/2.8 at only $250 ;-)

My only RF lens (all EOS-R users need this !)

Getting an MILC is a completely different issue. Some manufacturers make that super easy, for those of you who care. My question was much more complicated.

You don't have that much price differences for the phone itself but the service is very much different.

The thread is a bit inane.

Everyone is happy with their own gear...else why have it?

And few will admit to making big mistakes so everyone just grooms their own gear.
