I have been known to walk out of the doctor's office when the wait time got excessive.

I left after 90 minutes. they emailed me a couple of weeks later and rescheduled.

My 96-year-old mother had to sit in the waiting room for 2 hours yesterday before moving her to the eye doctor's exam room. Another 30 minutes in there before she saw a doctor. Pretty sad.
My old man had an eye appointment that he had to wait for over an hour for. He laid into them for that, he was that kind of guy. After that when he had an eye appointment he got in right away.

I'm surprised they didn't bill you for a missed appointment.

Well, I did check in.

I even went out of the little exam room to make sure they hadn't forgotten about me. "Oh, he'll be in any moment now."

My family have had to use (visit) several medical offices and hospitals during the past five years.
Calling any of their offices, (even those that are within 4 minutes drive from our house), is a joke.
Trying to make appointments or even "acknowledging" their calls to our phone, are nearly as
laughable as getting unsolicited phone calls. Trying to make your needs known to a computer
that was probably "programed by a junior high student."

Right after answering all the requirements and pressing (1), (2) or (0) for ten minutes,
you might, suddenly be cut off, only to have to start the process of pushing buttons or
saying (Yes or No) during a "almost comical" 10 minute discussion with a computer.

And then, after waiting (patiently) for 20 minutes, your call is diverted, and you are calmly asked,
to call back when lines are available.......

How much money do these doctors pay to have a (kid) program their answering machines?

So sad....for patients. No wonder people call 9-1-1, because they have had heart attacks
while waiting on the phone with a computer system.

I hear your plea.

We calmly, delete their requests for a rating, and then we get one in the mail
asking the same questions. "Rip them up" and file in the shredder for recycle.

I realize that they are just trying to listen to complaints and suggestions to help
make their services better for us, but.......any doctor that cares, will delete
those questionnaires when they are forwarded to them.

When a doctor works for an HMO, he/she is not involved in the rating questionairre process. It's done by a coorporate office and not returned directly to the doctor. The overall ratings can have a profound effect on a doctor's salary and whether that doctor can achieve "tenure" at the HMO or have to move on.

Never forget that the Federal Government took over a brothel in Nevada and went broke. Anytime that the government gets involved in anything, it builds a never-ending kingdom to administer it. As of 25 Oct 2023, there are over 70,000 ICD-10-PCS procedure codes and over 69,000 ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes as part of the Affordable Care Act.

Some are so silly that they are beyond belief. Two of my favorites are "Bit by a Pig" and "Hit by a Duck". Only in America.

Ya, but remember that the brothel girls got early retirement benefits, medical care every week, on and off duty, and a comfortable old age. And isn't it better having those middle administrators gainfully employed, spreading their salaries around and keeping the economy healthy, not falling into the unemployment woes of the Recession/Depression times.

That's a sad state of affairs. People from other countries are surprised to see lawyers and Rx drugs advertised on American TV.

I'm no longer surprised by this, but I continue to be sad about it.

Many years ago when my wife had an appointment with her doctor when she was pregnant, I left work to take her there. We waited well over an hour . The next day I sent the doctor a bill for my wasted time. Next time , she got right in.
On making an appointment today. When I call my doctor's office in IL. the call is answered in the Philippines. There literally no way to actually call her office. She is part of a medical group and she hates it. I can make appointments online which is what I have to do.

I think it's funny when the ad doesn't say what the drug is for. "Ask your doctor if Athynozoline is right for you. Side effects may include every horrible thing you can think of, including death."
