That's the headline from Digital Camera World!
"Vatican Media (formerly Centro Televisivo Vaticano) is responsible for official broadcasts of the Pope and Vatican activity. It has just reupped its relationship with Sony to upgrade its broadcast system, making use of the manufacturer's suite of 4K, PTZ and broadcast cameras."
So another kudo for Sony.
One of my favorite cameras is a Sony. Two other favorites are made by DJI.

You realize that the title of your thread implies the Pope's personal preference for cameras is Sony. That is very misleading.
I doubt the Pope has any idea or any preference relating to the camera equipment the Vatican uses. If you can find any evidence that the Pope personally selected Sony equipment for Vatican or personally uses a Sony camera for his own pleasure, please share it. That might be more interesting.
Beyond that the article seems to suggest that they were already using Sony equipment and just upgraded. It appears to be more or less a non-story. I hope you are not a Sony fanboy who needs validation for your equipment preferences. Just use what you like and what gives you the results you prefer and don't worry about what other people are shooting.

That may be, but then the article headline is misleading. and inappropriate. It's sad to see that we live in a world where facts don't matter anymore. It's like a headline from the old supermarket tabloids whose sole intention was to elicit a reaction not share factual information.
Well I took it as being somewhat tongue in cheek! But others might see mendacity.
Knowing my respect for the little man in white who pretends to be the voice of god on this earth that is quite a reference.
Of note, the 'preference for Sony' is not about the cameras but the Vatican broadcast selection, nothing to do with the damned pope..
Who cares what the Pope think about photography? Yikes! π€¦π€·ββοΈ

We don't know what the pope thinks about photography from that article.
As a person long involved in journalism, IMHO they were trying to be "clever." It is a crappy misleading headline.

We can reasonably assume that his personally preferred technique would be Spray and Pray.
