my name is Steven Minardi and I am somewhat of an oddball since I shoot Pentax. I go back to the Spotmatic when I was a young teenager. US Navy veteran and I am a retired natural resources police officer from West Virginia. I like to do outdoors critters and scenery especially waterfalls when they are flowing well and also do some Astro and low light. if any of you ever get to see the movie "Feast of the Seven Fishes" during the opening credits you can see the roof of my house.
Welcome to the forum.
If your Pentax does what you need, that's great!
Welcome. Post and have fun.

Welcome and wishing you brightlights and smiles.
Welcome to the Forum, Steven, enjoy.
I’ve still have my collection of Takumars from my years with Spotmatics. Still use them regularly with my Canons and M4/3 bodies. The 30 year decline of Pentax, the various acquisitions, the bad strategic decisions and the relative disappearance from the retail markets would make a tremendous MBA case study. The fact that there are still Pentax die hards is a great tribute to a fine legacy.
Welcome to UHH Steven, glad you joined us. Post some of your work.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

Welcome, nitehntr (Steven), from a fellow Pentax shooter. Also a US Navy veteran. Happy to have you here. Look forward to seeing your work and reading your posts.
Welcome from another Pentax shooter!
Thank you for serving. I still have my first SLR, a Pentax ME Super.

Pentax is not dead at all. Its just had some issues.. mainly with the mainstream media. Its almost impossible to find articles on the main stream photo forums, websites, and magazine spots that discuss Pentax in anyway. Normally your lucky to see a mention of a new pentax lens outside of a paid ad.
The funny thing is, that Pentax is the only one that allows its main advertising photographers to use other brands of gear.. its not hard to find of these guys shooting a selfy with a pentax, but you can see nikon, sony, even canon gear in the scene.
Welcome, Steven! I’m a Pentax fan myself. I’ve collected several examples of Pentax from Spotmatic, K series, and M series SLRs. I went digital with a K5 and, recently, a K1. I also enjoy using vintage Pentax lenses on Fujifilm mirrorless cameras. Post some of your work.

No, Pentax may not be dead - but it is on life support. The K5 is excellent, the lenses are still good, but the company is subject to the whims of Ricoh. It missed the boat on digital full frame, offered a pathetic - and now discontinued - mirrorless attempt and practically disappeared from the digital medium format market. Their marketing is invisible - as you pointed out - and the distribution channel is tiny. Pentax is easily the Betamax of the camera industry, good product but nobody cares - evidently even Pentax itself.
