Life has become stressful and hectic enough, and now the cell phone
era has come up with another way to "spoof" us and find their way
into our private lives, via a very useful, electronic gadget.

The cell phones have saved countless lives, and made our lives faster
and helped us to (pretend) to be more smart than we really are.
All the while, those that are abusing cell phones for their own gain
and enjoyment of invading our privacies. (But), let the prankster
and thieves beware....the same, unique, device that they are using
to rip us off or invade our peace, can eventually, become the same
device that helps the police and FCC to put them behind bars.

No one would ever guess that half of the morons in this world have
been made into scholars by "Google and Serie" with artificial
intelligence means.

What a relief, for most of us, who have sent our 50 volume sets of
Encyclopedia and Medical dictionaries to the recycler many years
ago.

My Panasonic phone connected to Ooma (internet) has a blocked number memory, that is now full. I check the incoming number that all too often begins with a "V." Not a valid call.

Also if i do answer a call and hear a "boop" like sound - I am being handed off to a live scammer. I immediately hang up. Or, if I have time I wait for the live voice and after they give their short speel including my first name, I ask "Does your mother know you are trying to cheat people for a living?" "Shame!" They reward me by hanging up.

What happened to the "Do not call register?"

That only works for US based organizations that respect the list.
NOT at all for the call centers in other countries that use VOIP.

Picking up is a win for the robo's...who get paid for successful contact.
Not saying anything is irrelevant to them.

There is a way to defeat them.

"Answer off"?

Then no messages from real people either.

First thing you do is never delete your voicemail...let it go to it's limit.
After that...no more voicemails...they cannot get through.
Any phone call that comes up...you block...then delete.

It takes awhile...but the traffic slows down to a trickle...I get maybe 5 blocks a week now.

Anyone I want to keep contact with is in my personal list.

Everyone else...cannot get me by phone...ever.

When I see a caller ID I don't recognize, I pick up and hang up. That can be risky, though.

When the phone rang just now, I almost hung up, but I thought I'd answer. Good choice. I'm getting a chimney liner kit delivered from Texas, with free shipping. This call was to arrange delivery. The kit costs $430 vs almost $2,000 locally for the same material. I'm glad I answered the phone.

When my phone rings it shows' on the screen number calling and a name. This means nothing. They can make it both any name and number they want .

If the phone only rings once I know that norobo.com caught it.
I always let my auto answer and if they leave a message I'll handle it then.
Should you just pick it up and hang it up that will tell the calling computer that you answer your phone.
If there is someone that personally wants you, they will leave a message and a phone # to get back to them.
This how it works for me.

All well and good for you.
If I let the land line answering machine "fill up", no more "important" messages when out of the house. Same as "Answer Off". Why have messaging (voice mail) then?
We have no "blocking" or Caller ID available on the land line. Minimal service only. We do all long distance outgoing calls on the cells. The kids will call the landline sometimes.

My cell gets maybe 1 to 2 a month, if that. And we let "unknowns" on the cells go to voicemail. Then I'll Google the number. I'll add the calling number as required to the cell list if it is warranted.

More often than not, I won't answer if I suspect spam, but my number used to be listed in a national motorcycle magazine when I was WA state rep so an unrecognized number could be real. If I suspect spam and do pick up, sometimes I'll answer, "Sheriff's office, phone fraud division." Click, they hang up. Or when told it's Medicare or such but caller ID says it's a local call or nearby small town, I'll ask the caller to identify where they are calling from. They can't then tell them their mother would be proud of them if they got a real job instead of lying to people. Medicare does not call. Nor does the IRS. And you didn't just win the national publisher's clearing house sweepstakes. But one I've received more than once is, "Hi Granpa..." then a sob story about needing money for an emergency. Obviously not a grandkid. I'll say, "You got yourself into the situation, get yourself out."

So if I call your cell, the mailbox is full, you'll never get my message, right?

Exactly...you won't be able to leave one.

Only those in my contact list already can reach me by phone.
