Most of our large lizards are called Goannas but they all have their own specific names...
This one is a Lace Monitor.
The lace monitor (Varanus varius), also known as the tree goanna, is a member of the monitor lizard family. A large lizard, it can reach 2 metres (6.6 ft) in total length and 14 kilograms (31 lb) in weight. The lace monitor is considered to be a least-concern species according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
I got this guy in the Adelaide Hills which border Adelaide.

Thanks Ken, yes, anything is edible if you've got the right sauce...

Or if you’re hungry enough. The Abbos love them.

What a great shot, Ron! Six feet and 30 plus pounds. Not quite as big as the Alligators that I've been taking photos of, but I would make sure not to invade their personal space!!!
