I disagree that gas prices would stabilize if we stopped importing. We already know how prices are established and if you believe that oil companies won't charge the US for what the commodity is worth on the world market, you're kidding. Look at wheat prices and how they have risen due to the Ukraine shortages. The US exports roughly half of the domestic production, so why are we at the mercy of world markets?

When in doubt, follow the money...
