Interesting formations--thanks for posting these of a place I have not heard of before.

These images are really nice. They remind me of a few places I've been to, but I've never been to this place. Looks very interesting.

Why so many flat tires? What was the cause of them? Nails…or sharp rocks?

I agree! The formations are amazing and you did very nice work in capturing them!

I think my flat tire was caused when I ran over probably a screw because it was a nice, small puncture and I could see the indentation of what was probably the head of a screw in the tread. Fortunately that tire was repairable. Then other fellow's flat tires were not nice small punctures, but look more like he may have hit some sharp rocks too hard. Neither of his tires were repairable and he had to buy two new tires.

Moral: If you go to this area, drive slow over the rocky roads there.

I went camping with my son over the Labor Day weekend at one of the most remote places in New Mexico - the Bisti Badlands. We hiked several miles and took lots of pictures. I had wanted to do some Milky Way photography, but alas, I had brought the wrong Arca plate for the tripod I had and could not get my camera to properly mount (dumb mistake). I did manage one shot while I held the camera on the tripod by hand and did some light painting. Our night hiking was also interesting when we discovered there were a couple of Bobcats stalking us. (We stayed close and made lots of noise, but it was still a rather unsettling experience.

I also made a new friend, Lyle from Colorado, after I helped him out with TWO flat tires (I also had a flat the day before and was myself running on a spare). He was the only other person out there camping in the same general area. Let's just say it was a memorable weekend.

I really can't hike; was going there, last year, but canceled the trip; will try again; is there enough to see without having to "hike miles?"

Moral Addenda: Don't go when it is really hot, take lots of water, have a good Bisti map and a targeted plan. Not a place to wander aimlessly. And the best suggestion: Find a Navajo Guide. There are no signs, no trails.

Have a plan and don't go alone. No cell service.

Agreed. We didn’t, we did, we did (including AllTrails), we did, we didn’t. You’re right about no signs and no trails.

Not a place for amateurs to wander. Sounds like you had thought about it before hand.

Indeed I did. Hope to go out again, but probably not this year.
