Good job with this composition. Is that the Missouri?

Thank you Alberio. That is the USS Washington (BB56) which was commanded by Admiral Willis Augustus "Ching" Lee Jr. during the second battle of Guadalcanal

My Father-in-Law Louel Scroggy was on the original crew (Plank Holder) and was on the ship on VJ Day. He was on the crew of a 5" gun. He passed back in the 1990's. He was just a great guy and proud of his Navy service.
Prior to his time on Big Mo, he was on the Edward Rutledge that was sunk by a Japanese torpedo, he spent a long time in the water before they were rescued.

Thanks for looking and recounting the experience.

Not sure, but looks like either the USS North Carolina or the USS Washington. Either ship had a great hand in victory in the Pacific and the NC lives on as a museum in that state. My first battleship visit. I love that ship!

Thanks for looking and commenting Timmy. She's my favorite BB right after the Big Mo

Definitely a great tribute. I was only 4 at the time, so I don't have memories of the war in the Pacific, but I did have an uncle who was killed in training in March, 1944. He was a Marine learning how to fly, or to die in, a dive bomber that he could not pull out of a dive. In his last letter home, he said that they were losing at least one per day; everyone was wondering who would be next.

Do you know if the battleship is the Missouri?

VJ Day, September 2, 1945

I was born on the day that Hitler died, and was only 5 months old on VJ Day. I do remember only 5 years later my mom and dad were worrying by the radio listening to troops being recalled for duty in Korea… one thing about us ‘mercian’s… we remember a lot of stuff but we don’t seem to learn much. Beautiful collage, Jack.

No, it is the USS Washington a North Carolina class battleship that sank the Japanese battleship Kirishima during the second battle of Guadalcanal.
