Canon 400 5.6 L prime experience with R7 or R10 ?

Wondering if anyone here has used the 400 prime with either the R7 or R10 and can relate your experiences? I have heard some elusions to the fact that the R cameras may perform at a lesser level (especially AF ) with older lenses thru the adapter.
Thanks for your experience/info ! 8-)

I have 2 RF lenses. The rest are EF, some Canon, some Tamron. My personal experience is that some of my EF lenses work better using the Canon EF->RF than on the EF camera. All you can do is try.

I don't have the prime but the AF with my 100-400mm L and the 2X III zoomed to 400mm which is f11 focuses very well, quickly and accurately on the R7.
Additionally I have a couple of old EF lenses from when they first came out that AF as good as they did on the old D30 if not better.
So your 400mm should be fine unless it has a problem with the lens.

you didn't say if it was an EF lens. If it is then get the EF to RF adapter. You will love the results. I have only EF lenses that I use on the R5. I shoot with the 24-70 2.8L ll, 100MM macro 2.8L and the 100-400MM L ll.

Yes, I understand the newer EF lenses have no problems - especially the series II's.....

How about the old EF 20-35mm lens?
Works most excellent on the R7.

I have a ef 500f4 series 1 and a ef 70-200f4 non is so old, both do pretty well with my R7 although sometimes I need to manually focus on something close to the subject as it my grab something well beyond and doesn’t seem to always refocus on the correct item. Once setup they generally do focus quickly.

The EF 400mm f/5.6: is one of few Canon telephotos without IS. Because of that, I would think the R7 with IBIS would be a better choice of camera than the R10 without IBIS.

Sure, that's a possibility... But it costs $20 a week to rent and $25 for round trip shipping.... $45.

For under $50 you can buy a very similar Commlite EF to RF adapter, shipped free from B&H Photo.

If it were me, I'd buy the Meike EF to RF adapter with drop-in variable neutral density and clear filters for $160, plus the Meike drop-in circular polarizer sold separately for $80. Total: $240. The same are available from Canon themselves, but the adapter and three drop-in filters will cost you $790. Plus reviewers say the Meike variable ND is better than the Canon! There also are some other types of drop-in filters offered for the Meike, that aren't available for the Canon.
