Long tailed duck, Barrow AK tundra

This is another image taken in Barrow Alaska earlier this summer. There is a lot that I like about this image but there are a couple of strange aspects that IMO need correction. I find the ice reflection artifacts on the left odd. I don't know why they show up as they do, but are present in the original image and are not a result of processing. Also, the lines in the background water (if you look closely) also are a bit odd and perhaps are a result of the pan when tracking the bird, even though the shutter speed was 1/5000. These have been soften significantly but still a bit distracting.

Anyway, I like the image and wanted to share. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Sony a1, 600mm f/4 +1.4x converter (840mm), f/5.6 (wide open), ISO 1250

Beautiful work, Frank! Did you use post-processing? Sometimes lines like these show up in sharpening.

Great catch. Ice kind of looks like sunlight on the ice crystals, (sort of like a macro photo of a snow flake) to me.

I like the photo. Could the ice be simply cropped out. It looks as if there would be enough room under the bird to still have a great photo.

Thanks for looking Dennis and the suggestion. Now, as I have looked at the area in question, I think it is a natural phenomena and as such I am inclined to keep it in the photo and not mess with it. IMO a crop to take it out would not preserve the composition I would be looking for. There are always compromises.

Exactly. As it is your photograph only you can decide what is best. It is already a great photograph so you are ahead of the game.
