You might have taken that from my post, but that's not what I said, or implied. I DID imply that I'm not interested in mirrorless, and to make sure there are no more misunderstandings, I AM NOT INTERESTED IN MIRRORLESS CAMERAS!! If I didn't have a considerable amount of treasure invested in DSLR's, it might be a different story. But as I said in my just previous post, I'm not interested in and will not line the pockets of camera makers or sellers when the cameras that I have already paid dearly for, will do the job very well. Despite all the hype bandied about both here on the UHH and everywhere else where one can catch even the faintest whiff of photography speak!

Sorry, no phone pics for me. Can't understand how a lens half the size of a pea can do justice to accepable photo shooting. My wife's 12mp apple is a joke.

Actually it's easier to make a flawless small lens than a flawless large lens. The sensor size that makes a difference. They tend to have small sensors. Also they tend to have a lot of DOF, there are time when you don't want that. I always have my phone often use it for my wide camera if on a hike. But dont' be fooled the phone cameras are very good at what they are designed to do. They are great for portraits, family photos etc.

Exactly. They are limited in low light, high DR and fast action, but they are the camera you (almost) always have with you. The majority of images I have of my grandchildren were taken with phones, and Iโ€™m thankful for them. I have a bunch of cameras, but I use my IPhone almost daily. And in terms of convenience, the images that I and my children take are automatically shared with each other and automatically backed up to ICloud. Theyโ€™re also great for documentation.

Try to spin it however you want. We all know what you said. If it was true that you were just saying youโ€™re not interested in mirrorless then that begs the question as to why you posted at all. Thatโ€™s certainly not pertinent and is in no way helpful to the OP.

As previously stated, weight is more a function of the lens choice. Here is a list of Nikon camera body weights in oz.:
Zfc 14 D5600 15
Z5 21 D5300 17
Z6 22 Df 25
Z7 22 D500 30
Z8 32 D850 32
Z9 47 D6 45
The absence of a mirror has less impact. Without spending more time, I believe the MILC lenses are lighter and often a little better than their DSLR counterparts.
Depending upon your goals and budget, only you can decide if changing over to MILC is worth the money and time.

Agree. When I have researched switching from my D750 to a newer Z camera, the weight actually favored keeping the old camera, which so far I continue to do. And while I'm completely unwilling to switch systems, I am envious of how lightweight the Canon R cameras are. The R5 comes in at 26 ounces, only slightly more than the 25 ounce Z6ii and noticeably less than the comparable Z8. And before anyone points out how much more capable the Z8 is, it's also a few years newer than the R5. Not willing to fork out the money to change systems, or engage in the learning curve of a new system, but really hoping Nikon finds ways to make these new cameras lighter. They used carbon fiber in the D750 which made it one of their lightest full frame DSLRs. Come on Nikon, lighten up! :)

Part of making that full frame camera smaller and lighter meant packing all those electronics into a smaller package, unable to dissipate heat as well.

I am selling my Nikon D500 that has two full frame zoom lenses to get a Zfc or Z50 with zoom lens. The D500 has served me well, and the quality of images has been terrific, but I want lighter and smaller for travel. For cruise ships and other travel it has become too much trouble to lug around at my advancing age. Landscape and dinner parites are my major uses. My question is ..... am I compromising quality ? Are there other compact mirrorless bodies that I should consider ? Comments welcome. Thanks.

Selling a D500 to get a Z50???

Why would you do that The Z50 is a fine camera, but it is nowhere near the quality of a D500. Maybe you could keep both, but I would never sell the D500. You will never find a crop camera that is as good as that camera. The Z50 is more on the level of the D5XXX series.

The only place the D500 might have an edge in the Z50 is in focus tracking for wildlife/action, and even there the difference isnโ€™t that great. The Z50 has the full complement of external controls which the D5XXX series lacks and adds many of the beneficial features of mirrorless technology that both the D500 and D5XXX series lack.

The z50 doesn't have a mirror. The camera and the owner are already better photographers than any DSLR owner.

The prevalent belief that the Z50 and D500 are "equivalent" cameras speaks very poorly of those making the comparison. I have shopped all of the Z cameras (except for the Z30). I would never give up a D500 for a Z50. It might be sort of a lateral move for an optimist, but would be a significant backup move for anyone who knows and understands how to use the D500.

By the way, the same was true five or so years ago when some nimrod tried to tell me that a D90 was an equivalent camera to a D300. I have a D90 IR conversion, and it doesn't even come close to wishing it were a D300.

By your way of thinking, the tool makes the photographer and anyone can buy skills just by throwing money at equipment.

Show a novice two similar images and say one came from a mirrorless camera, and they will ask for help in buying the superior camera.
