I'm setting up my "good" computer, Big Red, copying many GB of files from the Dell I've been using. Besides that, I now have two more working NAS boxes, an old Buffalo and a new QNAP. I have several HGST 1TB and 4TB drives, but I just ordered an HGST 8TB Helium drive. I read reviews, and it's a good drive, selling for $600 originally. I just ordered a "Renewed" one from Amazon for $75, delivered. All the HGST drives I have are "Renewed," and not one has failed over several years of use. I'm hoping to organize a good storage/backup system.
I have an old LaCie box, but the computer doesn't see it. I'll have to work on that.

Your computer is doing you a favor refusing to connect to the LaCie - they have produced some very troublesome devices (and that’s being very kind).

Is it true that you need all of that to create new topics on UHH?

Funny you should say that. I've seen quite a few bad reviews and comments about those "tough" LaCie external drives in the orange rubber cases. I found software and documentation for it, so I might give it a try.

I hired several people to post topics in my name. That monthly check from UHH comes in handy. Whoops! Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that. 😲

Jerry!
Thanks for the tip about the HGST 8T Helium Drive. They are now 69.95 from Amazon! I'll try them!
BTW, here's a YouTube video I just viewed yesterday about detecting an "undetected" hard drive in your computer by Britec who provides good info and advice:

I have been using one of these for quite a while now, with no issues. One time it lost connection to the PC, and my daily backups failed until I noticed it. This particular PC is prone to USB issues, which I think is more likely than the drive.
I went online to Amazon, and they also have 'renewed' 10TB drives for $79! But then again, I decided that I don't need another drive. I have 6 large drives, 2 stored off-site at the bank, and one here which is air-gapped, and only connected to power and PC when I actually run a backup to it.
I also run Carbonite, and I think I have the backup situation well under control - especially as there is nothing on here which would be of any interest to anyone but me!

Right. Add tax to that, and it costs a bit more. B&H doesn't have them. Britec gives good advice on a daily basis.
Disk Manager detects an old drive, but it can't do anything with it. I'll play with it another day.
EDIT: Clicking on that link, I see that I watched it already, probably when it was new.
The 8TB HDD arrived yesterday, and I was surprised to see it come with a "5 Year Warranty" card. I've never had an HGST fail, but it's nice to have the warranty. I'll be out most of today, so I'll probably set it up tomorrow.
