Does anyone know about the new company, OM Systems? I have avoided the OM1 because I have the Olympus EM1 III and the EM1X, and I don’t want to commit to a system by a new company.

You have to be kidding. I realize no company is garentteed forever, but OM Digital Solutions is still forging ahead. JIP is a diverse company which I had some doubts but faith in what they said their path forward would be. So far, they have stayed on that path and done even better than they said. I am not selling my equipment any time soon and will eventually buy a 90 f35 Pro Macro IS lens, the latest OM-1 body, and still possibly the 150-400 f4.5 lens.

You do realize that JIP owns some of Sony too? And Olympus still has their 10% of OMDS.

Maybe JIP is the one to own.... No, I did not realize that, but they all seem to have their hands in a lot of pies. I would think some of that diverse technology might bleed over into something useful in photography. I just want to get my little old Macro table top finished...

Looks like Toshiba is going to be a stablemate of Olympus at the J.I.P. farm... Another troubled company, but they do have their hands in a lot of pots and there are prob. areas that could help OM.. I don't know if there is a direct upside connection to improving OM, but who knows. Nothing but changes.

That doesn't help OM-D...two separate events...completely.

I believe they do mean to keep the Toshiba company going....since they have kept the name.

When they change the name...they intend to let it sail over the horizon...quietly.

Part of the Japanese business culture.

Well, no argument there. I do have several of their pro lenses. My reluctance is, I just can’t justify the upgrade in my mind, primarily because of the learning curve for the new menu system. I also shoot with a Sony A7R IV, and the learning curve with new menu systems is a big time commitment. If OM Systems continues upgrading from the OM1 camera body, eventually I will probably make the move to take advantage of new features. However, as a general rule, I don’t upgrade until at least two generations of new devices have been released. Thanks for the input!

I wouldn't worry about the OM-1 menus system. It is a big step up from the old system, as is the camera. The layout is far simpler and better organized, but most of the menu choices are the same, so it's not like going to a different brand.

Does this mean that Sony, Hitachi, and Toshiba, along with OMDS and many of their other holdings, are going to "sail over the horizon...quietly"? And because Olympus still owns 10% of OMDS, will they be taking back what they originally sold?

You have had OMDS with one foot on a banana peel and one foot in the grave - for how many years now? OMDS is increasing their market share, bring out innovative new products (I will be getting my new 90 f3.5 Pro Macro IS lens next month), and have people still waiting for their 150-400 f4.5 lenses, a sign of failure? So JIP will let their company just "sail over the horizon...quietly" while increasing sales, making advanced and innovative products, and making a profit? No company is guaranteed forever, but how do you get from making a profit to gone?

Haters gotta hate...

…But turnarounds do happen. Sony's camera division is the re-birth of Konica and Minolta. Ricoh bought Pentax.

Apple was in dire straights in the late 1990s. Eastman Kodak had based their Kodak Professional Imaging System Software (that photo labs used) on Mac OS 8.1. But they were so paranoid Apple would go under that they switched KPIS to Windows NT as DP2 lab software. Before it was ready for prime time, Apple came roaring back from within 90 days of bankruptcy. Today, Apple is about a three trillion dollar company, and where is Kodak? The iPhone amplified the digital revolution that killed off Kodak's high volume film and paper business, idled tens of thousands of workers, and razed many acres of manufacturing plants.
