My Epson ET-2760 stopped working. "Contact Epson Service." Looking online, that could mean that the waste ink tank counter has reached its limit. However, the screen should mention the waste ink, and mine doesn't. Epson says that this is not a user-serviceable item. Replacing the tank is only part of the cure. You also have to buy an aftermarket program or $9.99 to reset the counter since the printer itself keeps the count. The original waste ink tank does not have a chip, but the replacement does. BCH, the company selling the $9.99 resetting software, sells a glass bottle and plastic tubing to collect the ink, rather than paying $20.00 for an Epson tank.

My Epson XP-970 came with a replacement tank, but I don't know if I will have to reset the counter. Time will tell.

You can download a free counter reset utility from Epson.

I have an HP.i used it a few times within six months.and it ran out of ink.i found out that printers use some of the ink to clear and clean the heads.even if you don't print anything you will run out of ink.i don't know how often it cleans the heads.remenber hoggers.these printer companies are not in the printer business. They are in the ink business.so is Duracell.i buy those 550 lumen Duracell flashlights at Costco. 4 AAA batteries only last about 2 hours.like I said before.Duracell is not in the flashlight business.they are in the battery business.

Maglite 2AA LED flashlight rated at 332 lumen and rated as 2.5 hrs. So it's better performance by specs but in real life perhaps not better than your Duracell flashlight. Your flashlight has 4 cells but deliver 550 lumen.

When my Canon Mega-tank printer ink absorber was full/fully saturated, Canon said there was no way to repair it and I just had to buy a new printer. I found online videos how to replace it or clean it, but it was messy and might not work anyway. I replaced it with a new Canon G3260 that also has refillable ink reservoirs, but now has an easily replaceable ink absorber that Canon sells for about $10. They also gave me a discount when I bought the printer. The previous printer paid for itself because the ink (from Canon) cost about 1/10 the price of an equivalent amount of ink in my previous printer. I am an adjunct professor and print a lot and was spending about $300 per year on ink cartridges before my previous Mega-tank printer.

I wonder how many more EX-970 Epson users there are on here. A nice 'support group' would be helpful I think.

It's an XP-970 and an ET-2760. The ET-2760 is the one that stopped working - "Contact Epson Service." That would cost more than a new printer. I decided against removing the waste ink take and resetting the counter since I suspect that isn't the problem. From what I've seen online, the LCD will say the waste ink take has reached its limit.

EDITED: Ironically, if I were to buy a new ink tank printer, the ink I already have would be useless. Every new printer has its own kind of ink.

Well, the ET-2760 works now. It had been sitting in another room for a week, but I thought I'd try it. I plugged it in, turned it on, and it printed fine. What happened to "Contact Epson Service"?

At work, my boss decided we all had to buy the same printer to save on the cartridges we were forever throwing out as the printer died, but they changed printer designs so frequently that did not work either.

We also had big poster printers and bought supplies at the end of the year with any funds left. But they put expiration chips in the ink cartridges, but we found we could reset the date on the printer to the past and use them.

Reason for all this is: MONEY.

As I remember, Ford said he give cars away, if he could control the parts market. Maybe not true, but basically explains the printer market for me.

Years ago, I standardized on the Canon ip4500 printer for each computer. I could buy just one kind of ink for all the printers. Then the print heads started going, and buying replacements didn't help.

I wanted ink for an old Canon MP210, and not everyone carries that. I bought a couple of generic cartridges.

Jerry, I also have an Epson 2760 and had the same problem you are having. Turning the power off/on will give you a few more pages that you can print, but BE CAREFUL. What will happen if you ignore the warning too long, it will finally stop completely and this could happen in the middle of a print job. Find an Epson factory dealer/repair shop. It's not that expensive to have it fixed before it goes out completely. Shops are listed on Epson's web site. Just remember how much money you have saved on ink!! I love my printer. I threw out an HP one that I bought at Costco for $60 but was killing me on ink. It's sort of like the DEF warning on a Big-Rig. If you ignore the first warning, the system limits you to 55 mph. If you are dumb enough to ignore that, the next warning is when the truck won't go over 25 mph and will not restart if turned off.

Damn it! I wish this came up earlier. I paid $15 to someone in England for that ONE TIME reset of my Epson R2400. It worked like a charm and I am the 3rd owner and it is a wonderful printer. I hope they continue to make the ink....

My 3rd hand R2400 (mentioned above) had the external waste tank set-up by the 2nd owner who bought it from the 1st owner when the absorber was fully saturated. Still works like a charm.
