While I was on UHH yesterday morning, I lost my Internet connection. I didn't know if it was me or Spectrum. It was Spectrum. The connection was on and off all day, but it seemed steady by a 5:30.

When I tried to watch YouTube later that night, it said it did not have an Internet connection. I tried Prime - no good. I tried Tivo, but it couldn't connect to the box in the other room. The only thing that worked was Netflix, and I watched for a bit. I'm wondering how that could be possible.

Different areas may have outages, so the server(s) you tried to go to were "off-line". I think normally the signal can maybe be re-routed, but if the backbone in a certain area is out it, won't work.
That's why some sites are reachable, others not - depends on their location relative to the outage.
I've seen that happen, but extremely rarely.
Site servers may not be where you think they are. Mine are in Central Florida.

Verizon FIOS had some major outages yesterday that took about 10 hours to restore. It's generally very reliable, but that was the longest outage I can remember. The odd thing was that it only affected some of the basic cable channels and not all of them.

Since we stream, when we lose internet - we switch to our phones - since it’s only for a day or two, we don’t use that much data...

Reboot everything, as TriX said. That's nearly always the best first thing to do. Next, if you're still having selective issues, is to try a different browser or to clear your browser's cache.

BTW if you don't have at least two browsers installed, you aren't serious about the internet (you already got one browser when you installed Windows). I have four.

Sometimes after inability to access a site, a browser becomes biased. It remembers the last failed attempt (from cache) and loads that instead of loading the refreshed page. Grumble and gripe, but 'tis what 'tis, or it's what it's. Alternatively, you can try the f5 key or its more powerful big bro, the [Ctrl]+[f5] combo to try and reload a fresh webpage. That should work, but I've had occasions where this failed and I had to use an alternate browser or clear cache.

That is correct, on occasion I have to shut down the router and remove power for a few seconds then restart it. Routers do hang up and their OS needs to be restarted.

Yesterday about the same time, Fox went completely dark or froze for a minute or more several times. I had the same internet issue around 9 using Hughes Net. The way things are connected one never knows what a failure by a seemingly disconnected X can cause problems elsewhere.

Every once in a while, my new desktop will boot with no internet access. I start the Network Troubleshooter, it eventually resets the interface, and I'm back in business. That takes time, so I found how to reset the Ethernet port/driver myself. Next time, well see.

I have Spectrum and that's happened to me, no cable, no Prime, no Apple tv, but Netflix was ok. Netflix is always faster to start up. i figure they have a better-distributed network of servers.

That seems to be a good explanation.

I have spectrum and that happens all the time. Get the message"no internet connection" but my cell phone shows internet is working. I am told by more savy folks then me that it's a bandwidth problem.

Jerry, Bret, I "like" to comment that: misery loves company, but I'm glad to hear that we are not the only folks that have problems with Spectrum. Where? St. Louis.

They have promised a new delivery method in which our speed would double, but .... when? And will it be more "constant" than what it currently is?
