Recommendations for a strong camera strap

I did use OpTech exclusively and now use Peak Design. The much shorter stub left behind by the Peak Design with the strap removed (think monopod) is devine. When I want a sling or dual harness, I use a Black Rapid. YMMV. Best of luck.

Photographer Bart Ros explains in a private Nikon Z8 Facebook group that they were shooting an event in early July with their Nikon Z8 camera, alongside Peak Design’s popular anchors and strap.

“The anchor point on the camera broke. And the body fell. And it does not turn on anymore. Something audible is broken inside the body. But there is no external damage,” writes the photographer.

That cannot be true, just Nikon bashing according to UHH .

I've gone to the Cotton Carrier brand.

Most Camera straps are pretty strong. Not sure I would want one with steel cables in it, lest I end up getting dragged behind a car or moped of a camera thief. Rather lose the camera.

The one that came with your camera is probably the best fit you won’t break it

I am a Nikon fan boy so I do not bash Nikon. But the strength of the strap is useless unless you have the strap lug strength. Even if there is no defective strap lug I do not think the Nikon strap lug is strong enough to prevent someone to rob the camera from you.

Look into the UpStrap. I have several and they will not slip off the shoulder.

I read somewhere recently that Up-Strap is going out of business, retiring. 🤔

Very true. There is an issue with the strap lugs on the Z8. Nikon has acknowledged this issue. 😢

But you dared to say anything negative about the vaunted Z8.
Be careful here as saying anything negative about the Z8 will bring the wrath of UHH for not just singing praises.

To the OP.
Safer to have the strap cut than they try cutting it from a motor scooter grabbing the camera and dragging you with it.
Be aware of those around you and avoid tight crowded situations. If it is that tight it is not worth being there.

I'm glad I purchased 4 Pack Safe straps because it appears they are no longer in business. They have a steel wire through the strap and would take some real effort to cut through. I haven't found anything else that is "cut proof".

Mostly, I think it is better to have a sturdy strap that doesn't advertise the type of camera (Nikon, Canon, Sony etc) I would black out the id on the camera with a black magic marker, too. Holding on to the camera is a big help. I've never had a problem, but I'm never overburdened by equipment or other bags.

PS, that big DSLR/Mirrorless with a big lens on it screams Nikon/Sony/Canon.

Peak Design 1 1/2” or 2” depending on camera and lens weight. Peak Design is my day to day preferred strap.

Pacsafe makes excellent theft resistant products. PacSafe camera straps have special theft resistant clasps and a steel cable running through the strap. I use them in high theft areas like Paris. I find them slightly more bulky and less flexible but still comfortable.
