"I have a drivers’ license but don’t really know how to drive. I’m in my 40s and would love to finally get comfortable driving."

She wants someone to make her more comfortable driving. It's smart of her to do that, and I hope she finds someone.

I was once taking to a woman whose family owned a small airport. "Well, I'm not a very good pilot." She quickly realized what she had said, and added, "What I mean is, I'm not a natural, like the rest of my family."

Years ago, I took a plane ride with a friend, and he was he wanted to avoid flying over mountains. I was fine with that, and now I know how dangerous the wind over mountains can be.

When I was in college, a guy down the hall had a pilot's license. He got me and two other guys to chip in, and he rented a plane. When we got over the Hudson River, he demonstrated a stall. Lots of fun!

Stalling is the neatest, but only at a safe altitude

I got so I liked spins in a Cessna 150 Aerobat. Got my license at 16 and flew off and on until I lost my medical. My second wife though did have a Commercial Instrument rating and I only had a Private single engine land rating. We did fly a lot in our Cherokee 180. She did the IFR work and I really did not enjoy trying that. She would have a fit if I suggested spinning the Cherokee, it was posted do not spin.

TRUE STORY -- Many decades ago I was a private pilot. One day, I invited a buddy to fly with me over Long Island. After I got the Piper (low wing 2 seat aircraft) to start taxiing for take off, I found that the radio didn't work, so I didn't have take-off clearance. I taxied back to the hanger, got another rental plane, and proceeded with the joy ride.

You'd think rentals would be in good condition because they want them to come back under their own power.

I took got my license in a 150 aerobat. Spinning was my favorite. Right before I soloed I smelled hot electrical smell and so did my instructor. We landed and took it to the shop. 2 days later I was back for another lesson. I ask what they found. They said nothing. Couldn't find anything wrong. I refused to fly the plane that day and several others. About 2 weeks later it crashed on final. Never did find out why but it was odd. I work at the Middletown airport. I get to fly all kinds of neat stuff. A couple months ago I flew a agwagon empty of course. It's a crop duster. It was a hoot!!! I had originally flew it from Nebraska to Middletown. After it was brought up to snuff I got to have some fun before it was sold. My dream plane is a Wing Derringer. A light twin made for guys that don't really need a twin but want the redundancy to fly over water. Unfortunately there are only about 30 or so flying. I saw one at Oshkosh this year
