Minijack

I was exploring the R7 a bit this evening and was looking for where the remote switch cable attached.
Guess what? The 10D/7D remote switch cable is not compatible. The R7 uses a minijack connection.
This surprised me and I didn't want to buy a new cable just now. So I remembered that the 1971 Canon remote switch is also a minijack for the motordrive of the original
F-1.
I found that cable, plugged it in and it worked except in bulb it fires the camera but it doesn't seem to close the shutter. Perhaps the new one does but for now I can't think of needing to shoot over 30 seconds.
If anyone has the new cable I would like to know how it works on bulb if different.

What about using the Canon Camera Remote Ap on your phone, tablet or laptop to remotely trigger the shutter? The Ap is handy also for remote shooting (with live view and setting control) and wireless download of images,so worth having if you don’t already.

With the cable release I have, when in bulb mode, keeps the shutter open until you release button on the cable. Then when you release the button the shutter closes.

So how did you get the shutter to close? Unplug the cable or you press the button once more?

I bought the Canon intervalometer (TC-80N3 with the N3 - 3 pin connector) over 17 years ago for my first DSLR - the 20D. That worked for the 40D & 7D, but when the 7D quit working; I bought the 80D to replace it, it used the mini plug. I didn't want to spend any more money on a working intervalometer, but I found an adapter cord that connected the N3 end to a 2.5 mm jack connector. The N3 connector (not to my liking) was at an angle, but it worked well enough. My R5 uses the N3 type connector when I want to use my old TC-80N3. The adapter cord can be found at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, etc. for around $10.
