1971. 409 probably making over 400hp. Tall geared for road racing. Not legally licensed for the street in California.

…yes…but driving that down the California coast would be a lot of fun…!

I can't imagine running 198 MPH in an open car like this. That's the speed it was clocked at in 1967 running at the Daytona National track. The buffeting had to be tremendous.

Love them ♦️♦️🏆♦️♦️

Love me some Cobras. I presume this one has the 427 ci and not the 289 or (cringe) 260. Good photos!

That's a ligitimate situation to ponder. EV cars ( the high-end stuff ) are impressive in aceleration because they produce their torque ratings almost immediately whereas gas engines lag behind in reaching their maximum torque. Running flat out for top speed is a differnt issue. Right now, the top speed for street cars is somwhere around 270 - 290 MPH in a Bugatti that producing around 1700 HP. There's a number of folks taking a shot at the top speed. It's far from a static field of contenders. Top speed comes from the aplication of power, gearing, and aerodynamics of the vehicle. I'm not sure that, in these cases, it matters whether the power comes from ev motors or gas engines. some one more knowledgeable than I am about these matters may want to chime in.

I'm waiting to see how many miles they can run at the 24 hour race at Le Mans; an hour of excitement, then lunch and a nap while the car gets recharged!

That Shelby guy really knew what he was doing. Nice photos.

I could have bought one, 427 and all, right off a Ford dealers showroom floor in 1967 for $7100. The dealer and my dad were good friends and they let me take it out for a quick 10 minute ride. It would have to have been my only car for about 9 months. No way could I have tolerated that car under those circumstances. Noisy, extremely rough rideing, and hotter than blue blazes. And no AC...in Florida. I doubt I could have gotten a girl to take more than one ride in the thing. I passed on the deal. I guess that all of us, in hindsight, have stories we could tell.

This has the big hoss engine. I believe I've read where it was the most successful racing Cobra throughout its career.
