Haha. I take your post as humor. Seriously, though, try leasing an apartment or qualifying for a home loan with a subpar credit rating.

Since I cannot remember the last time I put a check in the mail...not too worried.

Yes, that happens as we get older.
There is ink now that cannot be removed from checks. The packaging for the pen is marked as such.
Last time we purchased property they wouldn't take cashiers checks, only direct deposit.
Once they recommend using XPO, Inc. the scam will be complete.

What are "checks", or "cheques" as we would write in the UK. Can't remember when I last saw one. I even have cash in my phone wallet that has been there since before Covid. Many businesses are now refusing cash too. Up to £100 we use Contactless and above that need both the bank card and PIN.
I thought we were usually behind the US on such matters. Haven't visited in last six years but hoping for New England and Fall Colours next year.

Possibly.
I use a Uniball Signo 207 gel pen.
Hopefully it does its job and cannot be <easily> washed.
I write 3 checks a month and use a fountain pen and Pelican Ink of an unusual color. I check with my bank daily and make sure the checks clear in a reasonable amount of time. I have not had a problem in at least ten years.
Jerry check out Noodler's Warden Fountain Pen Inks. They're supposedly forgery proof and even resist tampering with lasers. The trouble is that the thieves do not know that you have used one of these inks when they steal your mail. They might not be able to alter your checks, but you still have a check that has failed to be delivered.

Amielee, I am not sure the color of the ink would protect you against forgery. As I recommended to Jerry, check out Noodler's Warden Inks. There are many companies that sell these such as Pensavings, PenChalet and Goulet Pens and many more. I have been keeping a daily journal for decades and use a large variety of fountain pens. This week I am using a Lamy Safari extra fine with Birmingham's Violet Starling. I enjoy Pelikan inks. What is the unusual color that you are using?
From what I understand, to prevent check washing, you need to use permanent, non-washable ink. That rules out most ball pens. For business that write a lot of checks, I vaguely recall a banking program that would lock in the check amount.

I don't write as much as I used to...but I also use a fountain pen...in fact I stopped buying 'pens' years ago.
Noodler and fountain pens only now...something so right about it.

If you ever happen to have a question fountain pen or pens in general also paper and ink, the "fountanpennetwork" is a good place to start.
I'm pretty sure cheques haven't been available in New Zealand from any Banks for about 2 years, or so.
Cash or electronic payments the only option.
NZ Post Office announced recently that business was down in the past 15 years with letter volumes having plunged from 1.5 billion a year, to just under 240 million.
Its difficult finding a Bank branch office or a Post Office anywhere now. Many pharmacies (of all things!) now accept letters and parcels.
