Thanks. On our “shortest day of the year,” we’ll have about 4 1/2 hours of full daylight. That does get under our skin a bit at times.

You sure have some extremes, don't you Greg?

Yes we do, for sure. A lot of people still think Alaska is a land of ice and snow year round, but a few years ago we had quite the summer. On the 4th of July that year, it was 95 degrees! On the other extreme, a village called Northway, about 300 miles from Wasilla, has had winter temperatures as low as -85 degrees!

I’ve never been to Northway and I have no reason to go there. Northway is a Native village along the Alaska Hwy, to the southeast of Tok Junction, about halfway between Tok and the Canadian border.

I made up turkey tacos the other evening. ……….Yep, it was that light out. We love it.

I made up turkey tacos the other evening. Now I’m no food photographer like Tito, buyt they looked so good just sitting there I couldn’t resist taking a shot of them waiting to be eagerly consumed. Then I thought I’d share the view of our back yard as we see it at 12:15AM. Yep, it was that light out. We love it.

I love those long Alaskan summer days. When I worked at Tok, I would often sit out at midnight to watch the softball games under natural light.

Yes, there are some benefits to having all that daylight. I told my wife last night that it had cleared off and would be a great evening to take sunset photos. Then she reminded me that it was just going on Midnight and the sun was not setting yet! I was not inclined to get back up at 3AM to go somewhere to get those photos. Trouble is, no sooner does the sun set then it starts to come back up right away!
